Mirena IUD and Venting about MotherRisk

I just rang Mother Risk to ask them about a Mirena IUD I just had fitted and the pharmacist told me that I was only nursing for comfort, as nursing a toddler (23 mnths) had no other value.

I was so stunned I didn't reply.

Anyhow, I also wonder if anyone out there has had a Mirena IUD inserted while nursing. It's pretty much my only option for birth control at the moment, for several complicated reasons, but I'm worried that it will reduce my milk supply. My DS has some serious health issues and I'd like to nurse him for a bit longer.

I have had one since DD was about 12 weeks and have had no problems BF at all! DD is now 16 months and still going strong and she was EBF for 6 months!
So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you! My Dr. told me that it was fine while BF since the amount of hormones are so tiny and only delivered right to where it needs to be instead of a high dose coursing through your whole body before it gets to it's destination!

Same as PP. In fact, my supply is HUGE! I had Mirena after my first child as well and nursed for over 2 years. I think Mirena is great.

I did the Paraguard inserted at 6 weeks PP and no effect on supply at all.

I had it inserted when DS was 8 wks. I ebfed till he was 1, and he is still nursing at 19 mo. In fact, Im trying to wean him (see my other post), but my milk is not going anywhere!!! Mirena rules! Plus its the only IUD that is not a contraindication for an MRI (I had one done last month). So rock on, it will not affect your BFing.
