What are some of your favorites?

I'm looking more specifically for books for 3rd/4th graders.

In case you're looking for some fictional inspiration, here are a few good books with environmentalist messages for children and young adults (some may be for older than 3rd/4th grade, but they make good read-alouds too):

My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George

Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson

Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat

Hoot and Flush and Scat, all by Carl Hiasson

Un Lun Dun by China Mieville

Feed by MT Anderson

A really great picture book is One Well: The Story of Water on Earth by Rochelle Strauss. It incorporates so many lessons - reading, geography, science/nature/environmentalism, math (per centage, fractions) in one simple book.

I was going to suggest this book! It's great - can be a good stepping-stone to explore other aspects in more detail - and in the back, has a series of things people can do to take action. Awesome book!

Depending on kids' reading levels, actually, the past few years' National Geographic has had some really good articles about: water, soil, energy conservation. Worth going through those if you've got access to them and seeing whether any of those articles would be compelling.

we *love* all the Barefoot Books.

I wanted to suggest The Magic School Bus and the Climate Challenge

for younger readers I'd suggest Where once there was a Wood, by Denise Fleming.
