How many prefolds?

I'm debating whether I should get 3 dozen PFs or 4 dozen for this new baby. I'd like to wash every other day, just because I don't want a huge pail of dipes sitting around. Would 3 dozen be okay for that?

I think 3 dozen is definitely enough. I had that many and did wash every other day and it was fine.
It's so fun with a new baby, congratulations!

I got 2 dozen of the infant size, and one dozen of the small. The 2 dozen infant were almost always enough to wash every other day and on the rare occasion where we used them all, the small would work in the meantime, just not as great of a fit. Then when he got a little bigger I could use the infant size or small, and when he outgrew the infant I only had to get one more dozen small.

Did that even make any sense?

Anyways, thats what worked for us. Also as he got bigger we started liking other kinds of diapers (and he doesn't go through as many in a day) so now that he outgrew the small prefolds we're only getting one dozen of the next size.

I think 3 dozen would be plenty, we went through about 14 prefolds a day when DD was a newborn (approximately 28 diapers), so 36 should be more than enough if you are planning on washing every other day. Hope that helps!

We use the GMD prefolds and have 36 yellow edged and 36 brown edged which was perfect for us.

Three dozen should be fine. With my son I had 30 and washed every other day.

I would say 3 dozen and maybe a dozen good flats. I'm finding I'm liking flats a lot for laundry day and because they're fabulous burp clothes than can also be laid in a cover or snappied if need be so I just keep a stack of them, padfolded to grab for spit-up or to use as a diaper.

You might even get by with 2 dozen, so 3 is plenty to wash and have extras.

Thanks everyone. I bought 2 dozen used on diaperswappers and am going to order one more dozen on GMD's website. I'm skipping the newborn size and going straight to small because I tend to have 9-10 lb babies. I'm also considering getting some flats, I've been hearing great things. Thanks again!

Yup, you made perfect sense. Thanks.
