My DS is 19 months old and developed a diaper rash about 3 weeks ago.. It seemed to get better but then it's gradually gotten worse. We use Bum Genius AIOs (fleece), kroger brand wipes, which we've used for a long time with no problems. Rainbow naturals baby soap(this is a new one, but have been using it for awhile before the rash started). I finally took him to the doctor because it seemed like it was spreading. Not only was it in the diaper area (very defined lines where the diaper was) but now on his inner thighs and the creases between his fore and upper arm. He wakes up at 4 or 5 am scratching his arm profusely. The doctor said it looks like contact dermatitis on his bum, but said the arms and legs are probably just a symptom of whatever is affecting the diaper area. He gave me a steroid cream for relief of the itching and to help clear it up but said, the trick is going to be to try and figure out what's causing the rash in the first place. He said it didn't look at all like yeast or a food allergy. I've been using the same detergent on all our laundry (charlie's soap) since he was about 3 months old, and he eats pretty clean (even if it was a food allergy) no gluten, dairy, lots of veggies, meat, fruit and nuts and beans, very little grain.
Any thoughts? My sister's first thought was that it was fleece from the diapers. But I have a hard time believing that after 19 months of using the same diapers, he would all of a sudden develop an allergy to it! What do you think?
