How does she do it?

So I am visiting my sis in another state and I am checking out her garden. I have to say I don't know how she maintains it it in this hot climate. She did say its a lot of work.

She has
tomatoes
Carrots
Potatoes
Watermelon (which I had some of it was really good.)

I think I need to take a page out of her book. I guess you have to pay consistent attention.

Mulching is key to gardening in a hot climate. It keeps moisture in the soil, deters weeds, and keeps the soil cool.

I use newspapers and grass clippings for mulch, it makes everything so much easier.

I mulch. I can't even imagine a naked garden.

There are several reasons your sisters garden could be so lush. the heat plus frequent watering could produce large plants. We have the water here but have not had enough sun. It could be how much sun her plot gets, soil quality, stuff she uses on her garden I used organic fertilizer on my tomatoes. Holy pasta sauce batman. Those things are five feet tall. I had no idea. I know I could never maintain a garden in my home state the way I do here. the soil is just not as good. I also am a haphazard gardener. The reason my garden is so lush and beautiful is because God loves this state. Good soil, good sun, good rain is all given to me. i just have to plunk down some plants. Even the rabbits and bugs and slugs aren't doing much harm. The guy who installed the gas meter though...he owes me a crate or two of cucumbers and zucchini. but it may not be anything she is or is not doing. She may just be blessed with good rain soil and sun.
