Does your LO's daycare CD?

Was it a big hassle for them (or did it seem like it) when you told them that your child is a CD'ed baby? We're thinking of switching from sposies to CD and I belive we would be the only ones in the DS's classroom that does CD. I'm wanting to start out with AIO's - to make it easier for me, them and of course, my DH.

So tell me about your experiences with this. Curious to know what sort of reaction I might get. They are laid back as can be. The communication is wonderful. The teachers are fabulous. So I really don't see a huge cause for concern, but wanted to know a few BTDT's, if possible.

Thanks!!

Ours does.. No big deal at all, the parent that is currently cloth diapering sends a bag with clean diapers (pocket diapers) all set to go and a wet bag. Dirty diapers are sent home at the end of the day.

Ours didn't until we asked them to. Don't ask them unless you bring the actual diaper to show them what it looks like. Otherwise, they'll think that they are dealing with flats and diaper pins. What we brought them looks just like a sposie, except that it's cloth. We told them that all they have to do is to remember not to throw the dirty ones away, and we'll take them home every night to wash.

Once they got used to doing something they had never done before, they were fine with it.

My DS's daycare does. They even send them home CLEAN!!! Sometimes they're still wet from the washer if they haven't had time to dry them but THEY WASH THEM!!! I'm using the all caps because I still can't believe how awesome that is. I remember how they told me at our initial visit. It was like, "duh of course we wash them, you don't want us sending home dirty diapers do you?" I think my jaw hit the floor. I send three AIOs and three training pants per day (used to be five or six AIOs) in a cute little bag along with a wet bag. I agree that AIOs are easiest for everyone but I have seen other kids there in pfs and covers, and other assorted types of CDs. About 1/2 the kids there are in CDs, 1/2 in sposies.

He's at a small centre and it's Montessori. Another Montessori we visited would only allow CDs, no disposables at all, so maybe that's standard for M, I'm not sure.

Prior to coming to this centre, DS was in a small in-home care situation with just two other kids. Our caregiver there was really not as into it but I didn't ask - I simply informed her. I sent diapers and a wet bag every day. She just pitched the diapers in the wet bag without even removing any poop so it was no different than using sposies. Less garbage for her too. Initially I also sent cloth wipes but I noticed that she was never using them so I gave in on that one and just let her use her own disposable wipes (I never bought them though and we just never talked about it). I must admit that cleaning poopy diapers that had been rolled up all day was no treat and it made me want to switch to sposies but I stuck to my guns.

I think if you use AIOs or pre-stuffed pockets and frame it as being no more work than disposables, there's no reason for anyone to have a problem. Make sure you label them well!

Great info, mamas!! I just emailed the asst director at DS's daycare to get her take on it and to find out if other parents do the same and what their policy might be. Where he goes, it's just your run of the mill daycare, but they are just so awesome and open with communication, that I really don't see it being a big deal, but you just NEVER know.

I've honestly never asked. But, I've never seen any kids in CDs there.

I decided to just use sposies at daycare because i can barely remember to get out the door with everything i need anyhow (i've forgotten my lunch two out of three days this week), so I knew I couldn't handle adding another thing to need to take with me.

But it would be nice to use CDs, for sure.

My son used 2 daycares in one year. Fun times. Anyways, the first center had no problems with cds. I had to bring in a foot pedal pail for them and they just put that next to the diaper genie used by everyone else. That whole section of the room had a half wall and a gate dividing it from the playroom. I had to take everything home each night. Sort of a pain to need to take two trips to the car, but it all worked out. By the way, we used fuzzi bunz. I just rinsed at home and washed each night. We needed to leave that center because of a different problem. I had to find an immediate opening for my son. The one that I found did not allow cds at all. I could understand once I saw how their room was set up. The diapering was done on a built-in counter in the playroom area. There was a hole in the counter top that fit into their diaper genie system.

Good luck.

I never had any issues with using CDs for dd at a couple centers and a couple home care situations. Actually, it would have been a deal breaker for me if they refused. The Real Diaper Association and the Real Diaper Industry Association have been studying cloth diapers in daycare and have a tip sheet and a directory too.

AIOs are the easiest, but I have seen pfs and fitteds in use as well.

My DCP flatly refused.

The first one and the current one both specify in their handbook that they do not CD, but the one in-between does.

Mine would have but I didn't do it. Dylan wore disposables at dc and cloth at home. For me, it was easier to buy a package of disposables to keep at dc than to have to remember to take them home daily. And she didn't have to keep an eye on the other kids or the dogs to stay away from the wet bag in the bathroom. When they ran low, provider told me and I bought more. Dylan was in disposables approximately 30 hours a week which isn't all that much in terms of the other 138 hours in a week that he was in cloth.

Yep, mine does. We just started at a new place -- it's very sweetly crunchy, and their handbook says that they're happy to accommodate CD, as well as breastfeeding, that kind of thing. Ds has actually been in sposies the last few weeks since things have been crazy moving to a new house, but I'll probably go back to cloth next week.
Prior to this week, he was in an in-home daycare with just one other kid. The babysitter mixed cloth and sposies. She would put him in a disposable if they were out running around, or cloth if they were home for a while. I would pick up the dirties at the end of the day.

Yes, his previous home daycare and our current daycare center are fine with cloth. We do prefolds - each morning I put together 4 diapers by trifolding a prefold into a cover fold side down, with a liner on top. This makes it as easy as using a disposable on him. It does mean my son has to wear a onesie every day to hold that diaper up since there is no pinning/snappi'ing, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. They toss the liners out so poo gets tossed with it.

I am the only one that cloth diapers at our center.

My dd's did (though I didn't know it at the time) and the one I work at does. You have to bring your own bag and find your own way of cleaning them. Neither place would shake out the poop from the cloth diaper unless there was a disposable liner it could be wrapped in and thrown away in quickly, they typically just wrap it and bag it and parents are responsible for getting the poop out.

I do it. It's no big deal at all. I just ask for a bag to keep the wet diapers in, and I don't even mind folding them as long as mom and dad wash them.

I really like Flips with a pre-fold. It's probably as easy to use as AIOs.

That's the most important. It really doesn't matter how crunchy. It's really an attitude of doing what the parents think is best for the child that matters. My dd was/is in a gigantic institutionalized center, but when we asked them to cloth diaper, they did it.

If your daycare says no, then let us know and don't lose hope, and maybe we can still help. My dd's daycare initially said no, but I was able to satisfy their objections, and they changed their mind and said yes.

7-8 years ago, so things may have changed, but only with a doctor's note that Junior is allergic. To every brand of sposie on the market.
