11 month old not interested in starting solids.

Thread Starter
DD is 11 months and is still ebf. I attempted to introduce some other foods a few months ago (avocado, 1st at 8 months - not into it, again a week or so later - not into it, had my 9 month dr visit, felt pressure to feed solids, tried avocado AGAIN the next day - 2 hrs later, dd had severe vomiting, went limp, trip to ER via Ambulance....). During that time I also tried banana and oatmeal once, not into it!
I've since done allergy testing for the avocado, which came up neg, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Anyways, I've been a little scared to try foods, so it's taken me a while since the avocado incident.
In the past week we have tried zucchini and sweet potato. She keeps her mouth shut, pushes my hand away, moves her face away etc. This child seriously only wants mommy's milk. I am fine with that, I've heard of kids being fine ebf for over a year, but I dunno... should I be concerned?
Sorry for the long rambling post!

If she's growing well on mama's milk alone I wouldn't worry too much about it.
But at 11 months you really don't need to feed her. She's old enough to self-feed soft chunks or things like strips of toast and, as soon as she has the pincer grip if she doesn't already, tiny pieces of pretty much anything - cheese, soft meat, peas, blueberries etc.
My little guy had ZERO interest in solids until about 10 months when he could feed himself well.

^^ What she said
The first thing I gave my baby was a whole, peeled, juicy pear. She just held it, licked it and mouthed it. Self-feeding is probably the key. It's just playing/learning at this point. You're already giving her the perfect food!

I am in the exact same boat mama!

My DD just turned 11 months and other than a few times she took some carrots, she will not eat solids. Just clamps her mouth shut, and refuses to eat. It is very frustrating.

I remember DS not being that "into" solids his first year- but he at least tried them. She seems very adamant about not eating food. I am confused about how often to even offer it to her? When she puts up a big fight, we tend to take a day or two before pushing it again, but maybe we should offer more often?

No need to "push" it. Just every time your family sits down for a meal, give her some of what you're eating on her tray. If she eats it, fine. Toriaj has a great idea with the pear (or a peach) which my little guy loved. You can flake fish or shred meat for her or offer pieces of pasta. Anything except obvious choking hazards, really.

I totally agree with Megan73. I had no success trying to feed my bebe purees and such, but as soon as I just started giving her finger foods, she went to town. She eats all kinds of stuff now. Also, if it is on your plate, they seem to want it more. Now, if I sit down to eat something, she has to have some too. Don't push, just offer her foods that you eat, making allowances for possible allergies and such. My bebe still won't eat much fruit, but I will keep offering it to her. SHe absolutely loves fish!!
