Hi Everybody:

Not sure how, but I stumbled across this site. I really like this Science course.

They have a lot of other free curricula on their site, as well.

Thank you so much for this. I've been looking for a science curriculum that my youngest two can do together, and this looks awesome - the "little otter" and "otter" run on the same schedule so it would work great.

wow cool--that looks like it would be perfect for our 5 yo.

Thanks!

After looking through everything, the only really bothersome part is all the references made to "marking through with a black marker" references to evolution in the science books. It's one thing to disagree with things and talk to yout kids about it, but striking references out of existence is so 1984. That said, it's cool to see that there are so many references to evolution that she wants to mark out . It just means I can use the books she recommends and not add any of my own to cover evolution!

ETA: I noticed this in the next level science info. I haven't read through the pre-k/k carefully yet.

I didn't look at the link, but this made me laugh!

So funny, I just stumbled on this too! We're using her Sea and Sky "gravy" resources and plans. I loved the idea of the program (Winterpromise) and she gives a lot of additional supplemental resources that I think will work better for my dc ages.

Quick question, how does it work with the book list? I don't understand how I do the course without all the accompanying books, yet I can't afford all those books (that PDF is 51 pages!!) My local library is no help. Their selection is so bad, I couldn't count on finding more than 3-5 of these books, total.

In a curriculum like this, which seems really fun and useful, I am not understanding how I do it with a reasonable budget.

HELP!!

From the looks of it, there are a few books that she recommends that you buy to have on hand. For Little Otter, it's the first three on this page. With the others, it seems like she's saying that these are the ones she used - but it looks like you can find any other age appropriate books. So if your library doesn't have, for example I Know How My Cells Make Me Grow, you can look in the kids non-fiction section for other books about cells, or just use the main books and/or the online resources she directs you to.

Thank you, Jeri. I appreciate that. That makes sense. I think I'm going to start this one. Looks awesomely suited to my DS.

So pick the ones you really want or are a better match for your child's age level. Even if you use most of the books, the learning will be the same.

You can a lot of these books really cheap at places like halfprice books, Goodwill, amazon.com, and especially www.paperbackswap.com (my favorite source!) I found many for $1. If you live near a large metro area it might be worth a trip to those Goodwill stores or halfprice books.

You could also do some of them through inter-library loan through your library even though they don't carry them. (I know how it is with a small library-I have a better non fiction children's section than my library. But they are willing to get things thru loan for me)

Looks like a great Health Study unit. Doesn't really cover science, just health.
