Am I never to get ahead!

A few years ago when the economy tanked & all the car companies were going under, we took some precious money out of savings and opened an etrade account to buy some very cheap ford stock. I never really checked on the account because the stock was growing, I wasn't planning on buying more or anything else. Well, we just went to check it online and apparently I accidentally purchased something with the symbol "Ford" that wasn't ford! WTF! This little mistake has literally cost us over $2000!!!

I'm so mad, DH is mad at me, and I feel like sh!t. I swear, no matter what my intentions, it never seems to work out. I hate it! ARGH!

Is the stock you did buy "salvagable"?

It made like $50 or something, we put it to trade today and buy the ford we thought we had.

We lost alot of stock too. Millions did. You got your Ford stock now so fingers crossed it does well. Beating yourself up wont change the past. At least it was not a more painful lesson.

Lesson learned and its in the past but stock trading is very complicated and symbols for companies are not always what you think they are or should be. In my past life I was a licensed broker and even with all my fancy computers and research machines I would check and double check before placing trades.

FYI If you bought the actual symbol 'FORD' this is for the company Forward Industries which trades on NASDAQ,

Ford Motor Company is the trading symbol "F" and trades on the New York Stock Exchange.

There are other 'clues' a trained broker can see by looking at the 'ford' vs 'f' to see the error. Im not saying you did anything wrong by using e-trade but this is an example of why you may want to check with an financial advisor before doing anything like this in the future.
