Mantra when things are tough:

Even though I feel this way (insert feeling: pain, anger, sadness) I love and accept myself completely.

Here's what helps me: being near the ocean, long walks in nature, yoga, automatic writing (putting pen to paper and just letting things flow without judgment), writing a hand-written letter to someone you know would appreciate it, petting and caring for an animal, listening to music you haven't listened to in years that you used to love, breaking out old photo albums and enjoying the memories that come up, painting a picture from your heart, dancing in the rain, learning how to play a musical instrument, and/or getting a massage

Lately, I started going to spiritual classes and yoga meditation classes. It helped me.

Do your best everyday, no matter what. That best will not always be to the same standard every time. And it will certainly not be someone else's best in any given situation. But the point is, as long as at the end of the day you can go to bed saying I did my best in that (moment/situation/project/day etc etc) then that is all you can do and that is good enough.

I know the value of this now, but I'm still having a hard time doing it. My natural inclination is to avoid pain, usually shame-related. It's only recently that I learned that some kinds of pain are normal, and that the healthy way to respond is to quietly be with it and accept it.

You teach people how to treat you.

Worrying is praying for something that you don't want.

Don't be so sweet people want to eat you nor so bitter they want to spit you out.

Open the lips, sink the ship.
