Talk to me about checking CM

I know that I should be checking CM but I just didn't want to add one more thing to my list of things to obsess over. But, at the advice of the folks at FF, I should be doing it to ensure my charts are as accurate as possible. So I am on CD14, which is my max fertile day according to my Ovacue, so it is predicting O tomorrow.

I checked it on CD12 and marked what I considered to be creamy. It stretched maybe an inch but it wasn't very clear. I thought it was creamy transitioning to EW. Do you think creamy is correct?

We BD'd on CD12 with preseed. I checked again last night on CD13. It stretched like crazy. I could pull my middle finger and thumb almost all the way apart before it broke. It was more clear but still some white in it. It was also a little thicker consistency than a real EW. I marked it as EW. Is that correct?

Also, how do I know it is the CM I am getting and not leftover preseed? My thought was that the water could have evaporated out of the preseed and what was left was the thicker EW consistency stuff.

Also, I've only checked once per day. I thought checking too much could remove too much. How often do you check?

TIA!!

Hi--first off, I've found CM the clearest and best way to tell O is coming, at least for me.
It sounds like you're right on with your interpretations. EWCM won't always be perfectly clear--I think it varies by person. Mine is usually white with some clear mixed in.

I doubt it's leftover preseed, because preseed doesn't really stretch at all (believe me, I've tried). I mean, maybe it could mix with some EWCM and make it seem like there's more CM than there would be otherwise, but I don't know. You can always do the water test--if it balls up, it's EWCM, if not it's semen or something else.

Sounds like you're doing great!

It seems that 3X a day is the recommended amount of times to check, because it can change through the day. I read that in a fertility book somewhere. When it's really abundant, I don't think there's much danger of removing too much.
