When did your kids give up naps? DS1 is 27 months and seems on the verge of being done with them...

All my boys stopped daily sleep naps when they were 4, but even now, with the exception of my 16 y/o , they need, and want a quiet time in the afternoon. They're 6 & 7. However, during the school year, particularly in Sept. and Oct. they'll come home and head strait to bed for a nap - or, they'll sleep IN school. ( My DS slept through the entire first three days of primary- finally his teacher called me like "what is it with this kid? " )

My DD, 6, still sleep naps almost daily for about an hour, if she doesn't then she's out cold for the night by 6ish which is often disasterous because I have to wake her for supper, church group, tae kwon do, etc.

I say they must have one exciting dream life to be sleeping so much - my Mother says no, they just plain wear each other out with all the fighting they do

My two oldest stopped napping at three, the youngest just before two years old. We have never done "quiet time".

my 3 1/2 year old still needs a 2 hour nap during the day but this summer its been hard since the 6yr old has been around and he fights it. once schools tarts i think it will be easier to get back into the napping habit. the 6yr old though gave them up around 4

DS stopped taking them (except when sick or other unusual occasions) at 26 months, DD at 28 months. They would have happily kept napping at 4 or 5 pm but then would have been awake until 11pm and would be up at 6am no matter when they fell asleep (we tried, beleive me). So, no nap got them more net sleep per day than a nap did. They'd go from 6:30 or 7pm to 6:30 or 7am.

Yeah, that is our issue... DS1 is HAPPY to nap around 330/4 but then he is up till midnight and so not happy about it. We didn't nap him today and he is in bed at 7 like normal so I guess I would be happy to trade a nap for him actually sleeping at night!

I actually grew to quite like the early bedtime and evenings to myself. And it was nice to not have to be home or plan for a nap time. A little hairy the first few weeks around 5pm, but they both adjusted relatively quickly.

we were in the same 4/08 due date club, so my dd is the same age as your ds1. Ours dropped her nap just this month, but she dreadfully needs it. By 6 pm she is dragging, and any later than that, she is overtired, wound up, and very hard to put to bed. I'm also expecting (28 weeks now) and really, really miss her afternoon nap! She just won't stay in bed - mine or hers - and runs around getting into stuff while I rest. We call this "quiet time"
