help! plants not producing

My square foot garden plants will start to take off, whether by seed or transplant. but with my tomatoes, corn, broccoli, and squashes etc, nothing ever comes of it. once in a while my squashes will flower but that's it. the only thing that seems to grow well are the easy things like herbs and my bell peppers. other than that everything just stops. i know it shouldnt be a sunlight or watering problem. im just frustrated b/c we have spent so much money getting these boxes going. it was SO much easier growing from the ground.

could there be something wrong with my soil mix?

Could be too high in nitrogen, that encourages leafy growth at the expense of fruit. Maybe you can feed it more phosphorus to balance it out a bit? Check the Ph too, see if it's what your plants should have. Could also be a lack of pollination for some things, have you seen bees at work in the garden?

Oh and herbs and peppers two of the things I've not done so well at, myself, at least you've got something working out.

thank you so much! ill have to look into it and see... my hubby is a science teacher so i know he knows how to test the ph.

i saw bees during the spring when i first planted them but not anymore.. then again, it's too hot right now. the squash vines (they had been stagnant for months) all burned from this crazy heat wave we are having but my tomato bush looks good as new. just no flowers.

i am surprised my bell peppers took off too! they didnt get very big though.

I would try hand pollinating.
