My DD has been cranky and clingy for the past month or so. I put it down to teething at first, but it was too weird a pattern. I also ruled out separation anxiety for the same reason. She had been bf about every two hours or so (she is 10 months old). She wasn't really trying to nurse constantly, but when I put her down, she would cry and want to be held, or she would cry if I walked more than two feet away.
I decided to start giving her regular meals. Up until then she had only been getting toast in the morning and whatever we were having for dinner.
I have started giving her an egg in the morning in addition to toast or a hash brown. Then leftovers for lunch, and then dinner.
She is bfing about three or four times a day now. Once in the morning when she wakes up, then before or after lunch and then usually she will cluster feed in the late afternoon and then I nurse her to sleep. She is also nursing less at night, although her nightly pattern varies so much it is hard to tell in such a short time whether there is a difference.
I am not trying to wean her, but it seems to me that she has a high metabolism or something, because ever since she was born she has been a champion nurser-most days she would nurse for two hours at a sitting and then be hungry again within an hour, or sometimes sooner.
Ever since I have started giving her more food, she has been much more pleasant, I have not been tearing my hair out, and she is so much happier.
I am just curious as to whether anyone else has had the same experience and how to keep a balance between solids and bfing so that she does not wean too early.
