I'm seriously considering a HB. My last 2 were typical hospital births and want the total opposite of that this time. We might go to a birth center, but I'm concerned that it might be too far from our house. I have terrible visions of UA in the car on the side of the highway! I still have a lot to look in to though, insurance and money-wise. HB is my 1st preference!

This is my third pregnancy/baby and I'm planning a home birth. My first was born in hospital with midwives, naturally (she was posterior). My second came 2 1/2 wks early was 3 hours long from start to finish. I had to go to hospital via ambulance because he came so quickly (I was in transition at home). My husband and midwives went to the hospital I was supposed to deliver at, but the ambulance took me to the closest hospital and my son was born minutes after arrival by an OBGYN. It was also a natural birth but VERY painful - being strapped to a stretcher and feeling like I needed to push is NOT my idea of fun. I like to labour standing up so it was quite a bad experience for me. I wish my son had been born at home so I have always said if I had another one, it would be a home birth.

This is my partner's first baby so he is a bit less sure about it than I am, but he is on board with my wishes. I am keen to learn all about home birthing and am expecting this to be another fast labour, though that isn't certain. I'm also curious to know if this one will arrive early like my second did or if it will hang on until it's due date like my first!

I requested "The Business of Being Born" and "Baby Catcher" from the library so I'm keen to watch/ read them. Any other suggested reading/ viewing materials would be greatly appreciated.

This will be our third baby, second home birth. We are using a different midwife this time and from the interview I really like her! Re: water birth - I have not had one, for some reason it just does not appeal to me! I know, what is wrong with me!! Luckily we have a deep soaker tub in the house already so if I change my mind the option is there.

Who is your midwife? I had a homebirth with Marcy Tardio while I was living in Staten Island. Staten Island has no homebirth midwives, so I had to get one from Brooklyn.

During my first pregnancy, I accidentally clogged the kitchen sink and overflowed it. My husband cleaned it up, but that left part of the floor looking very pink, and the rest very brown by comparison. I wanted him to mop the rest to make it all look even, and he didn't want to. I told him I would do it myself, then. I was very pregnant at that point, and having horrible sciatica to the point he had to help me to the bathroom. He gave in and did it.

HB for me too. I planned a HB with my first child but had a hospital transfer mostly for exhaustion. DC was born only about a half hour after we arrived at the hospital. She was crowning at home but took a long time to push out and I got so tired from vommitting for most of the labor. I hope to rectify that with relaxaton, home remedies for nausea, the possibility of prescription anti-nausea and IV help if I do end up vommitting for much of labor again.

I really like the HB MW in my town, she's right down the road and I feel like she's the right person to help me with my particular labor challange. She was also really helpful for a MC back in March so I got to know her a bit then.

We are planning our first home birth. (My two sons were each born in the hospital). We just interviewed and picked the CNM and she seems wonderful!

i birthed with Cara almost 2 years ago. i HOPE she has availability for me, some midwives fill up so fast. i would really be devastated if her schedule was full. just shot a message over late friday.

then again, i'm not really sure when i am due... kinda hard to pinpoint availability when you don't know when the party is gonna be.

I'm likely to have to birth with Miriam, Cara's backup, as Cara is on vacation when my due date falls. If I go late, though, there's a good chance she'll be back.

ACK!! well, i hear fantastic things about Miriam, actually. but now i'm even more anxious to figure out how far along i am. and since it will take a month for my new insurance cards to get processed, i probably won't find out until october. fudge.

If you're more April than March, though, you may be okay (as long as she has openings). I think she's gone for March, but I don't know the exact dates.

A good friend of mine birthed with Miriam last year; she wasn't too crazy about her for pre-natal care but said she was absolutely amazing for the actual birth. So if you do end up birthing with Miriam, it will likely be just as good as birthing with Cara.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I started calling NYC midwives the day after I tested - not even two weeks along - and some were already booked that far ahead of time! It was tough to have to do all those interview/consultations and pick one; I'm so glad my midwife is available for this pregnancy.

Eighth baby, third homebirth, hoping for a second waterbirth :-) I'm in northwest Virginia, and my midwives are also my midwifery preceptors, so it really is like a family affair when I have my babies with them. After the last birth, I don't possibly know how it could possibly get any better...maybe use the birth pool with the jets? LOL!

We're going to have our third homebirth (also a HBAHBAC) and can't wait. I love birthing at home and wish it happened more often! My husband doesn't ever want me or our baby in a hospital again so we're in total agreement!

I just had a great homebirth on Christmas Day, so we didn't have to do any research this time--we're using the same midwife She was already in my phone, and she already knows all about us (and vice versa).
