Need Opinions: Would You Make A Dr's Appointment In My Case?

ok well, a bit of my sad background: in the past few years, i pretty much let myself go... for various reasons. i think without realizing it i was depressed, if that at all possible... it translated into for the most part sedantary lifestyle, and a lot of overeating. ive gained an insane amount of weight (throw in a pregnancy)... i know it has been very bad.
i am changing my evil ways now. i am eating very healthy and starting to work out and just take a better care of myself. and right around the time ive made significant changes i went for a physical and of course results were pretty bad... it took a few weeks before i actually got to talk to someone in my dr's office about it. first the results took a while, then they were trying to make me make an appointment which i can't do because our insurance ran out and the new one doesnt kick in till sept.
finally, a nurse talked to me a few days ago. she said that i basically was diabetic. while a normal person's levels would be around 4, mine are around 11. she said she understands my situation with the insurance and yet urges me to make a dr's appointment.
so i told her about all the changes ive made, and she said that i would most likely be able to reverse these bad numbers and be healthy again, but still said i should make an appointment... but i dont understand why. should i? i feel fine, and of course have more energy now that im taking care of myself and dont see why it cant wait till sept. but im still a little doubtful just because of how she insisted ... would you make an appointment (and pay close to 100.00 with no insurance) or would you wait? opinions are very appreciated

Your insurance starts next month? I'd make an appointment for the first day your insurance kicks in.

i was thinking about that too, but i just wonder if theres anything particular in terms of curbing those sugar numbers i should be doing other than diet and working out that im not aware of... i mean i will be pissed if i make an appointment (even with insurance) and the only thing they tell me is to eat better and get out more...
i tried to look up stuff online, but it is all very confusing since i dont exactly know what those results measured (except some abstract "sugar") ... i dont really have the symptoms of diabetes (weight loss, frequent urination, thirst, and so on)... the only thing i really have had is floaties in my eyes (and those started going away), which i guess would count as "vision disturbances" symptom.

I think I would wait till September, only because it is so close. You could schedule the appt now so that you don't have to wait long after you get the insurance.

Keep eating healthy and exercising. Maybe look up a diabetic diet and follow it.

It's great that you decided to take care of yourself!

With September being so close, unless they're telling you that you're in such danger that you should head to the nearest hospital and check in, I think it's fine to wait. I don't think there's anything they would do for you that you can't do yourself or that can't wait a couple of weeks. They might want to redo your blood work - I'm pretty sure that to dx you with diabetes, you need to have the same test results duplicated. But I would, like the PP said, find a diet on line for type 2 diabetes (I assume that's what they believe you have) and follow that for the next few weeks as best you can.

I think those symptoms you listed are for type I diabetes, not the kind that you have. Type II diabetes generally has to be pretty chronic or pretty severe before you start seeing symptoms other than some fatigue (I could be wrong).

I think you can easily wait until Sept if you exercise and watch your carbs, trying to keep carbs at least (if not more) below 40% of your calories.
