so how much is your toddler nursing these days?

DD is just turning 14 months and I feel like she is nursing constantly still. At least 7-8 times a day and at least once a night, although briefly. She is a huge girl and DH is thinking she is nursing too much to which I have no reply because I always have operated under the assumption that a baby can't nurse "too much".
She is 14 months and weighs 35lbs, although she is not super tall. It cracks me up because she has the head circumference of the average 3 or 4 year-old. We were at a music festival all weekend and she was playing with 2 and 3 year-olds who she was bigger than. DH is starting to freak out and I just don't get it because I don't see anything wrong. She is very active and healthy, only been sick once, and she really doesn't eat that much solid food she just doesn't have an interest.

So....how much is your toddler eating? How old is your toddler? Did you actively have to start denying your toddler the breast to get them to eat more?

Sorry mods if this should be in BFing, I just figured it'd be easier to get more toddler responses in the toddler forum!

My DS nurses at least 6-8 times during the day and at least the same throughout the night. He's small though like us.

My 18 month old (22 lbs) nurses about 5-6 times during the day and 2-4 times at night. Apparently she loves the milky. LOL!

At 14mos DS was still nursing about 20 times a day (tell that to your DH who thinks 8x a day is too much )

Now at 18mos he's in the 10x a day range.

I do not deny him nursing so he eats more, but as he has started eating more on his own, I have denied him nursing for my sanity (seriously, 20x a day is A LOT!!! ) I always nurse to sleep & upon waking but I put some limits in place -- i.e. if he is asking to nurse frequently (several times an hour) I will offer him food/water first and only nurse if he insists.

My 22 month son seems to go through stages. He is super busy playing for a few weeks an kind of forgets about it and maybe will nurse 3-4 times a day. But right now he is going through that stage where he asks to nurse like every hour or two!!! It is just a tiny snack, but seriously...should I be setting limits? It is kind of driving me nuts.

My 18 month old was in the 3x/hour phase until I set some limits recently. I'm trying to limit her to 4x/day but it often becomes 6x. That seems to be the best I can do right now. But if I let her, she would still ask constantly!

My guess is, your daughter is just supposed to be big girl right now. Breast milk or no breast milk. My DD's little friend who is 19 months is around 30 lbs and in the 93% for weight - she loves to eat! But both her parents are very tall and her daddy can eat a ton! It's just her genetics.

My 19 month old nursing probably 10-15 times a day and 3-4 times at night. A couple weeks ago she was asking to nurse every 10 minutes or so. I thought I was going to lose my mind.

My 25 month old nurses her day away. Like will nurse the entire time I am sitting down and if I don't sit for like a hole hour she tells me she wants to nurse. She still wakes at least 2 times in the night to nurse as well. I always joke she will need a support group for boobie withdrawl.

She is tiny for her age (just like I was) and I mostly don't mind all the nursing. I know before I am ready she will be done so I just enjoy it while it lasts.

My 27 month old is still going strong. He has only recently started to skip the mid-morning and late-afternoon BF sessions. He still nurses at night. At this point in time, my supply comes and goes according to the time of month. It seems much more about reconnecting and checking in with mom now.

thanks for all the replies. I don't know if I feel comforted that DD is far from the only babe who wants to nurse ALL THE TIME or whether I am dreading having a 2 year-old who will probably still want to be nursing constantly.

I love nursing DD, it is a lot of fun and our little cuddle/nurse sessions are some of my favorite times, I am just getting washed out from it sometimes. We were at a music festival a couple weekends ago and DD was with us because I am nursing so much still and she is still so young and all I could think about was next year and if I am still nursing I won't be able to have some beers and get a little wild...Sigh... I could always pump but if DD is right next to me after I've had a few beers she isn't going to take kindly to a bottle

DH is the one that worries the most about her weight. I used the WHO percentile charts age for weight and she is literally off the chart I guess? Way above the 97% whatever that means. Her daddy is a really big guy and I think she is just going to be a big girl. We all thought that from day 1 with her giant feet and hands!

My 15 mo nurses on and off all day and 2-3 times at night. Except for going to sleep, he usually only nurses for a couple of minutes at a time. He's a good size kid at 25 lbs and 30". My BFF's son is 6 weeks younger and completely weaned from formula, so mealtimes are kind of weird when we're together.
