I just happened to look through our county budget and thought WOW do people know we spend more on "solid waste" (removal) than we do on our libraries???? Waste that could be almost ENTIRELY eliminated through separation, recycling, composting, etc if we knew how much it was costing us to dispose of it ....
then i thought ... should this not be part of what we learn in school - or homeschool?
Here is our county budget: http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/budget/fy10/1174.pdf
It's got colorful pie charts and everything. I think it would be easy to excite kids to read about how our county budget is spent. It would spark discussion.
Has anyone done this with their kids or with their homeschool group??? I am getting lots of ideas.
