Best kids show/series/movie(s) for a two-year old?

Hi mothering.commers. We don't own a TV but our daughter watches a lot of stuff (cartoons mostly) at her grandma's house & often wants to watch Mickey mouse & other Disney characters at home. Alot of the old Mickey Mouse stuff is pretty violent, often mindless & not really age appropriate for a child who just turned two (and can't follow the action or words fast enough).

If you have any other suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated!

I think a lot of rated G movies are not appropriate for two year olds, at least the ones we've tried. I'd like DS to learn about people being rude and hurtful from real people, not the tv DS loves trains, but Thomas the Train even has some hurtful stuff on it.

DS is allowed to watch:

Elmo's World
Barney - surprisingly one of our favorites. Basically just songs and dancing while learning about all sorts of stuff.
Sid the Science Kid

He also enjoys nonfiction DVDs about real cars, trains, airplanes, garbage trucks, etc... Our local library carries these.

We go to pbskids.org and watch the "videos" my ds loves them all

Dinosaur train
curious george

Word girl
etc.

My not-quite 2 year old absolutely adores Yo Gabba Gabba, Jack's Big Music Show, and The Upside Down Show.

I'm not really sure if The Upside Down Show is age appropriate for 2 year olds, but he laughs like a loon and plays along with it whenever he gets the chance to watch it.

My 2 yr old LOVES Caillou. LOVES! And I think it's a quality show. That said, I've heard that the first couple seasons of shows perhaps were not as good as what they're currently showing on Sprout (people mentioned too much whining, meanness towards little sister, misbehavior without consequences) - I've seen none of this in the eps we've seen.

We also really like Kipper (also on Sprout) - British (so you can feel all highbrow ), low-key but captivating animation, whimsical storylines.

And Sesame Street is a hit, but I find I miss "the old Sesame Street" from when I was younger....most of the current eps seem to be relegated to "shows within a show" - i.e. Abby's Fairy School and Elmo's World.

I've never heard of some of these. We are all PBS all the time, which limits us a little.

Curious George (by far the favorite. George! George!)
Word World
Calliou

There used to be a series on Netflix on demand called Mighty Machines that my 2 year olds loved. Just lots of big trucks doing their thing. Alas, it's not on on-demand anymore. But, if you have a truck lover, still a great series.

My 2yo likes In The Night Garden, Mr Rogers, Dora (gah!!!) and Veggie Tales. She went through a Blue's Clues phase for awhile too.

Caillou is kiddo's absolute FAVORITE. I've heard the whining etc stuff too and the episodes that that happens in, it always seems to be pretty typical 4 year old stuff (or 3 year old stuff for those eps) and hardly over the top. Most of the time, I like how calmly his parents handle things. He is 9/10 a super kind kid who is really curious and loving. I'm growing sick of it so now we do more blues clues during tv time.

currently in our house the faves are:

Caillou-his FAVORITE (its like his soap opera!)
Curious George
Little Bear (my favorite-because its kind of mellow)
Jacks Big Music Show
The Backyardigans (although this is new to our rotation)

My LO is still "too young" for tv, but I've let her watch it. She really loves "Stomp" (it's not a kids show, but you might like it too!) We have it saved to our Netflix instant watch for emergencies!
