Razors?

I'm a shaver. Okay, that already came out sounding all "TMI-y"...but I shave near daily and the cost of razors is starting to bug me!

I don't use fancy razors - I used to...but now Dh and I use the same brand/type which makes life a tad simpler. We use the Schick disposable razors. They average about $5.99 a pack, which usually has 10-15 (sometimes they have "bonus" razors in the pack...and I try to stock up!).

Anyway - how much do you spend on razors a month? If you get yours for cheaper than I'm getting mine...and LOVE them...please, for the love of all that is holy, clue me in!

I'm trying to whittle our budget down even further and razors just seem so frivolous...I hate spending $15-$20ish/mo on something that's technically a 'non-need', kwim?

And before you say "shave less". I can't. Really. It's not just an asthetic thing with me...it's a sensory thing. Stubble physically bothers me. Weird, I know...but true. I try to make my razors stretch (a la "tightwad gazette" tips) but really - it doesn't work. I get 2 good uses, max. Sometimes 3...but then I'm feeling all martyr-ish with the razor burn

Man...sorry to ramble about razors! I really should get a life right about...now, lol!

TIA!

ETA: Yes, I've shopped around plenty and occasionally score coupons. I've even gone so far as to look into bulk buying my razors, haha! So far, no good!

We buy our razor head at Sams Club. I use the venus and my hubby uses one of the mens version. I hate when we have to buy heads, because a pack costs $25-$30!! But I make my pack last probably an entire year. I shave every day also, well atleast some parts . I shave my legs probably 2-3 times a week.
I don't know how often my hubby has to buy his razor heads, but it can't be more than 2 times a year. I swear we never buy them. That may not help if you don't have a warehouse member ship, but I thought I'd throw it out there

I shave as well.. the armpits and legs... the armpits as soon as there is stubble and the legs probably once a week.. maybe more, depending on what I have to do or to go. I hate to shave my legs.. I always use a razor several times and never have a problem. I probably use one for at least a month or if the blade gets rusty because I let it sit and get wet in the shower. I don't buy new razors very often.. and I buy Bic Sensitive, cheap razors. It's not something I'm willing to spend more $ on unless it works out cheaper in the long run.
Sorry, I guess I wasn't much help.

My husband and I use the same heads, the Gilette ones with three blades. The ONLY place we buy them is Costco, otherwise it's SILLY how expensive they can be at the grocery/drug store. We buy them...probably quarterly. I find that I can get a week's worth of shaves (in the summer if I shave every day it ranges from four to six days and if I shave every other maybe ten days?--in the winter I just shave my underarms most often, unless I'm going to the gym to swim so I get several more days out of a blade) out of a blade. It's a huge expense when we have to buy them (in fact just stopped at costco for them today), but *shrug* it's an expense that I have to accept if I want to shave! I find that I get a closer shave, so more uses from the blade if I use shaving cream of some sort (right now I'm using an EWG friendly one that I really like). One bottle tends to last me five months or so, and I ask for it for a stocking stuffer from my mom.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Sounds like I'll need to check out our local Costco or something? I don't have a membership, but have been meaning to browse a bit to figure out if the cost would be worth it.

I can't imagine using one razor for a month! I WISH I could! Every brand I've tried has always lasted about the same amount of time. I have super coarse hair and my legs can literally feel stubby the SAME DAY I shave...horrible, right? LOL!

Okay...I'm Irish, French, and Native American. I have dark coarse hair. I find that the blades that are razor heads and not disposable razors just last longer than the disposables. Maybe it's my imagination, but I don't think so. I would get horrible razor burn in places I'd rather not mention if I used a blade everywhere for a month, but a week I can make work.

Buy an epilator! No waste, no monthly expense.

I find the same thing. Admittedly I don't think I've tried the brand of disposables that the OP uses.

There is an interesting thought - or even buy an electric shaver. I'm not too familiar with them but there should be fewer/no wearable parts, right? The benefit of the epilator is that you don't get that stubble effect too.

Wow, I use mine for literally months but I only shave maybe 2x a week. Tossing after 3 uses is just wasteful IMO.

Yeah, no stubble with the epilator- AND it lasts longer than shaving. Electric shavers, ime, don't get as close as a razor, so you always have stubble.

Well, I mean you can't continue to use a razor that is so dull it gives you razor burn or pulls the hair instead of shaving it.

I get whatever I can get for free stacking coupons at target/cvs. I am almost thru my "free" stash though i need to do some looking.

Razors is on my do not pay list, along with toothpaste, toothbrushes, body wash, and laundry detergent

i haven't shaved in 20 years so investigate this further, but Sharper Image used to make a razor magnet that you could set your razor on to keep it sharp. Sharper image went out of business, but someone must make one. The magnet helps to realign the molecules, just like a knife steel. Also if they sell razors on Amazon, you could join Swagbucks and get free ones that way.

I HAVE to toss mine after 3 uses, because then it just HURTS! And the razor burn I get is just awful.

Me too. I hunt all year so I have enough razors for summer when I shave nearly as often as the OP (I shave only every 4-6 weeks in the winter)

See...I think maybe I'm just cursed, haha! I got the 1/2 mexican dark coarse hair thing too (thanks, Dad) and previously I've used non-disposable razors - like, crap, what are they called? It's been awhile...Intuition is one brand, I've also tried venus and whichever ones are for women and have 4 blades? Don't recall the brand and I'm too lazy to check out amazon

I suppose I could always give them another shot...maybe the kind of shaving cream a person uses matters?

I found that when I was using oil of olay silk ribbons (or whatever!) body wash/cream or conditioner, the razors would die after one use (pretty much!). I switched to soap (yep!) or cheap mens shaving cream that I steal from Dh and the razors last longer...

I've been considering this...but..OUCH, right??

I've had my legs waxed once and it was so painful I couldn't do the other leg, hahah! Do you use the epilator for *ahem* everything?

How long does the hair have to be before you can brutally rip it out? LOL! Thanks

I really wish I knew how to do that fancy multi quote thing right about now...

I'm really intrigued by the epilator...no stubble sounds fantastic!

I've used electric razors in the past, various brands and haven't been impressed. You are basically always stubbly...and I don't dig it

omg- no. My epilator comes with a trimmer attachment and I use that for the bikini area.

And yeah- it does hurt the first few times you use it. And sometimes for a few minutes each time you use it... but then your leg kind of numbs to the sensation.

I have an Omjoi that has a double epilating head, and it can get really short hairs. It's actually easier and less painful to get them when they're short.

eta: And yes, the no stubble part is FANTASTIC. I hate stubble.

Okay...I just bought an epilator...I went with a braun silk thing-a-ma-jig because it had over 1,000 reviews, most of which were good! (that's a good thing, right?).

Anyway...I can't wait to give it a shot! I've been meaning to try one for yeaaaars but have always been to cheap and too chicken! But hey, even if it only works for my legs, I'll still be saving mega bucks on razors! Wish me luck, ladies!
