My husband and I decided we are gonna try for our first! My plan is to bd every other day the entire month. haha Anyone get lucky their first month? Any tips? I've been taking prenatal vitamins for a while now just in case it happened accidentally. I'm excited!

Also..can anyone tell me where I go to edit my signature..thank you!

DS1 was conceived in the 2nd month off the pill, no charting. DS2 was conceived the 1st month we stopped avoiding pregnancy with FAM (I knew for sure I was fertile when we dtd). That said, most of the time for most people even with careful charting it'll take up to 4 months, often a year. But it's completely possible!

Oh, for your sig, the "User CP" link in the top lefthand area while logged in, "Edit Signature" is on the nav bar on the left.

Our first one took 6 months to get a sticky BFP.

Now I have been trying for 9 months with 2 chemical pregnancies. I am starting to get nervous as the one year mark approaches.

Baby #1 was conceived the first month I went off the pill - without charting, planning, etc. Baby #2 has been in the works for 14 months now with no luck and lots of planning.

DS and DD both were babies that scoffed at the idea of contraceptives (condom, then the pill)

DD-on-the-way took 7 cycles over 2 years to finally conceive her.

With DS it took us 2 months of trying, my 3rd month off hormonal BC. I definitely recommend charting, if you don't already know about it. Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great, easy-to-understand book. Even if you don't end up charting, you'll learn so much about how your cycle works. And I love FertilityFriend.com for charting my temps, etc. Why chart if you can just BD every other way and get pregnant? In case you run into problems, you can figure out what they are and seek help earlier instead of later. Good luck! It's an exciting adventure!

DD1 was an accident on BCP
DD2 was our first month of BCP and we DTD every day.
DS was our 3rd month trying.
Good luck!

I'd been charting for a few months, but our first cycle ttc resulted in DD.

You don't have to dtd every other day for the whole MONTH! That's going to get tiring! Do you chart? Then you can just be extra sure to DTD during your fertile week, especially right before O day.

Well, if you are DTD for fun, it is one thing but when you get tired of that, figure out about when you Ovulate and DTD while fertile.

Do some reading on the menstrual cycle and def check out fertilityfriend. Also, don't be afraid to ask lots of questions here! Hopefully you won't be here long.

=)

Thanks everyone! I'm gonna start charting n such after a month or so I think. Wanna just try at first to see. I'm irregular so I am not sure when I ovulate.

Baby dust to all!

The last time it took us 8 months, the first two times it took us 2 months. This time we're on cycle 5 already.

I'm the 12+ month. We got preg the month we started trying, a year later. I charted, took a billion herbs and lost over 50 lbs.

Hopefully things will be quick for you! Normal people get pregnant in about 3 months, if not three, for sure 6. If you're young and healthy and have gone more than 6, talk to a DR. If you make it to 12, talk to a RE.

Weeell, I don't think it's too unusual to go for a bit longer than six, even if nothing's wrong, right? I do this weird obsessive thing with drawing coins sometimes--figuring a 20-25 percent chance, I pick a penny to be the pregnancy penny. With 1/4 odds, it's not unusual to take 5-7 or sometimes even 8 or nine tries to draw the right penny, and with 1/5 odds, it can be more than that. Though you're right, the average seems to be 3-5. But a lot of the time luck of the draw can be a BIG factor.

I had one shot of Depo in December, it should have been effective for three months, and then it took us another 17 months after that to get pregnant and I miscarried right away. Got pregnant with my oldest the next month, so 18 months total. We were never really actively trying with charting and planned sex or anything like that.

My subsequent babies are all spaced out 24 to 28 months with no birth control, but I do breastfeed for a long time and have gotten my cycles back anywhere from 6 to 15mo after birth.

DS was conceived the one time we didn't use condoms (which, at that time, was our only birth control). The famous "one time won't hurt anything". It sure as h*ll hurt 9 months later

Now I'm on the pill and we (usually) use condoms so no more babies for a little while

Oh no, I totally agree! I've always heard if you have been having well timed intercourse and haven't gotten PG in 6m you should at least chat with a DR. I honestly don't think the Drs are really concerned until a year. After 12m of well timed BDing, something is up.

Why can't I vote more than once?

#1 was "first month of trying" although, if I'd realized that it was going to happen so fast, I might have waited a bit longer before trying (such as using a diaphram for my first 6 months of marriage.)

#2 was a complete surprise, (I was still nursing an 8mo who wasn't on much solid food yet) and with #3, we were "still trying not to get pg, but being a little less cautious."

Yeah, I'm with you. Even with the possibility that everything is fine, it makes sense for people to find out as early as they're comfortable with if there are any potential issues. I just didn't want people (i.e., me!) to feel freaked out if they had been trying a little longer than six months and nothing had happened.
