Goodbye time off!

My ex was supposed to take both girls (ages 7.5 and 2.5) starting this Sunday night for a week. Yay a week kid free!

Of course, my toddler has decided that today would be a great day to spike a fever, and commence vomiting and diarrhea. Poor thing.

So, I'm not willing to part with her, and in total agreement, my ex is unwilling to take her (of course he would take her if necessary, but why take a sick baby who's stuck to mama?)

Next weekend I'm moving (bought a new house!) and was using this week to a) work tons of overtime and b) pack up the house.

I'm half glad that we've reached the point parenting wise that this is a no-brainer, but I'm also half chagrined that I'm losing my week off.

We're hoping by Wednesday she'll be on the mend and I can meet them halfway to the cottage where she can finish up the week with them.

Ever have plans fall through because of a sick kid? This is so not the first time this has happened.

Not specifically due to illness, although my x never took them sick, but he's been MIA for most of their lives so I've always been "stuck" with them. A couple of years ago I finally told my mom that she had better take them for a couple of weeks during the summer or she was losing her grandma badge (didn't put it quite like that but it was the general idea) and a couple of years before that my uncle took my son for 2 weeks so my grandmother took my daughter so she wouldn't feel left out. Those have been my two breaks for their lifetime. It was lovely. Wait...almost forgot that my x reappeared one year and wanted them for Christmas so he took them back to his state and dumped them with his sister for 10 days. Three breaks then.

Sorry you're losing your productive time. Does your little one have any interest in cartoons? That's how I got important stuff done. That and having one room they could safely trash without supervision.

Haha. Forgot to say that in this AP arena it's almost shameful to say that you want your kids gone but I enjoyed every second of it even though I missed them.

I hear ya. I'm the mom that drops her kids at daycare on my (very occasional) day off so I can sleep or lounge (in between laundry and bills).

It was that mix of 'Phew, glad it wasn't a battle to keep her home' and 'Damn it, there goes my free time'.

So true, but I don't mind being a rebel.lol

At some point, I look forward to have a day off every other weekend and still taking DD to daycare. My friend has every Friday off and that is her down time.

To the OP, I'm praying for a speedy recovering for your DD!
