large blood clot postpartum

Thread Starter
hi mamas,
this morning I woke up 9 days pp and realized that my bleeding had increased. Was a little worried but had an intense interior tear that had to be operated on following birth so I knew this would be no normal recovery.
This evening when I used the restroom I passed a large (golf-ball sized) clot that resembled placenta or reminded me of when I had a miscarriage.
What could be the explanation for this? Has this happened to you? Do I need to go to the ER?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen about 2 weeks pp, I had virtually stopped bleeding by 1 week, then it increased quite a bit (I didn't really think much of it though) then I passed a clot the size of a golf ball, I thought it looked like placenta because it was the consistency and colour of liver or something and streaked with what looked like muscley white fibres, I called the MW assistant and she said it's a clot and I just must be doing too much (like even having visitors) and needed to rest more and as long as things slowed again it would be fine. It was, she was right in my case after that clot my bleeding tapered off and disappeared back to yellowish lochia (?) within a few days. It really freaked me out at first and I totally didn't believe her. I would wait a day or so and see what happens if you don't have anybody to call unless something makes you worry but I am no medical practitioner
