? Homemade laundry soap on cloth diapers?

Im almost out of Charlie's Soap. I was thinking on making a batch of laundry soap. Does anyone know if it causes issues with cloth diapers I was going to use this recipe

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap- Front or top load machine- best value

4 Cups - hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup - Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda*
½ Cup Borax

- Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.

-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.

-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. (will gel)

-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.

-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.

-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

-Front Load Machines- ÂĽ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

I have heard bad things about homemade laundry soap leaving soap residue or build up on the dipes. So, instead of using our homemade det on our cloth diapers. I use just simply a mixture of Borax & Washing Soda, 1:1 ratio.
I have a top loader, so I do a rinse, 1/2c vinegar soak, and then hot wash with the Borax/W Soda mixture. No problems with stink or anything here. I've been using that recipe for 1.5 years!
Fwiw, for our homemade laundry soap I grate Dr Kirks Castile soap bars and mix with Borax and Washing Soda. No complaints there either

Mama Lo, what kind of diapers are you using?

my homemade dipe detergent (1 cup borax, 1 cup washing soda, 1/2 oxyclean) worked great for a few months up until now when i bought a new washer and somehow this top loader differed from our other one. either way, the same amount of detergent ended up being too much and we got ammonia issues and then a little bit less detergent gave us stink issues. sigh. so now we use Planet

I wouldn't use the Naptha soap at all on diapers. It will cause unbelievable stink and repelling!

We have all Bum Genius 3.0. Are you using 1c of those ingred's for each load? Or is that your mixture ratio for you container? I use about 2tbs of detergent for our dipes. That's the mixture of borax and washing soda, and then I throw in probably a half scoop of oxy clean.

no way to the fels naptha. We use 1/2 washing soda, 1/2 borax (tbsp) and some baking soda. No soap, no vinegar. Sometimes some oxy free. there was a great thread on ds about this.

i used 2 - 3 very level tablespoons, depending on the load. i use prefolds and we have one bum genius dipe, and now that i think about it, my BG never had ammonia or stink issues, just the prefolds, even though they were all washed together you would think it would be the other way around

anyways, i love making my own detergent, and i might try what you do ...

i've never had luck using homemade detergent for diapers. but I do have a front loader so that may be the issue. i have ot use ecos for diapers. but i have been using homemade detergent for over 2 years on clothing without an issue. And I just use whatever soap is on sale and cheap.

It's not an issue becuase they are non sudsing detergents.
