Harvester ants ate my herbs!

Now I'm really hesitant to start a "real" garden...

I woke up yesterday morning and my rosemary was NAKED. There was a trail of leaves along the edge of the patio. This morning there was another trail, and I realized they were at work on the thyme, at the other end of the patio.

Everything I've read says to use insecticide on the plants to keep the ants off, but that's really not an option since, um, we EAT them, often w/o cooking first.

Advice?

I don't usually hang out here, though I'mthinking of planting. But just saw on another thread here the suggestion to use garlic pepper tea to keep ants away. Since you haven't gotten any responses, I thought I'd pass it along!

I was interested in seeing what it was about, looks easy to make.

Your so welcome! I really hope this helps. I would spray it at night so that you know for sure it is dry on the plants before the sun gets to them. Or if they are in pots take them out of the sun until they dry.
