Toddler with high fever - no other symptoms Please reassure me!

My unvaxed 20 month got a fever yesterday-went from 102 to 103 range today 104.
He doesn't have any other clear symptoms-he does sound a little congested and sounds at times like he has phlegm but no runny nose or cough. He does sound snorty when he sleeps though.
He was very umcomfortable/upset and we broke down and gave him some motrin.

He is responsive and playing and laughing- at times and ate some fruit and drinking and nursing.

Does this make sense? No other clear symptoms???!!
He never had this high a fever before!!!!!

To make matters worse, he has been sick very often lately-a cold, croup, upper respiratory bug and now this in a matter of 6 weeks?

He did get 3 days of steroids with his severe episode of croup.
Could this have weekend his immune system?

Are other kids sick this much? Are we having a bad run?

He is not in daycare and takes vit c and probiotics daily.

We do live in a dense city and go to the playground almost daily or other child activity.

Can you comment? Reassure me?

I would try to keep him quiet. Nursing as much as he wants. Lots of fluids teas are good. Chamomile is good for fever. you can also put wet sock on.

If the fever does not go down in 24 hrs I would call Dr.

He will be find. Hope he feels better soon

that happened to my DD pretty regularly at that age.

The most important thing really is how he's acting- if he's drinking enough and playing, he is likely just fine. Really sick kids tend to look and act really sick.

3 days of steriods shouldn't have had a huge impact on his immune system. We've done prednisone for croup occasionally too- breathing is the #1 priority! The cold, croup and upper resp. infection may have been all the same thing that just never quite got kicked.

Could be something like roseola.

Could he have an ear infection? My DD frequently gets those and will often show no signs of pain at all. She is prone to them after any sort of cold/upper respiratory infection. The only way I've ever known is b/c of the fever, and there were 2 I didn't even know she had b/c her fever never got very high-I found out at well baby visits and the last one when her eardrum perforated.

Just wanted to throw it out there that a high fever with no other symptoms could also be a sign of UTI. Hope your little guy is feeling better soon!

My dd2 just had an ear infection present this way.

We have never vaxed, and this was her first major fever in over a year. She has had roseola and chicken pox.

We used to stay home a lot and then recently travelled around, staying with kids that go to public schools or daycares.... We picked up a cold almost everywhere we visited.

If you do think its an earache- try breatmilk in the ear, or silver.

We also picked up a garlic based kids ear drop and homeopathic at whole foods. She was better in less than 24 hours.

My little guy did the same exact thing 2 weeks ago, only his fever spiked to 105 during the night. I felt comfortable that as long as he was drinking and peeing we were doing ok. It took im a solid 4 days, but the fever went away and he was totally fine.

My 2.5 yo DS had a high fever for 4-5 days as well about 3 weeks ago. The only other symptoms were itchy eyes before the fever and the same mild respiratory as your LO. I took him to the ped at day 4, his ears and lungs were clear, no strep, no rash/rosceola. We are in TX, and a friend in CA said something similar went around in her boys' circle as well. Strange...hope your boy feels better soon.

Update Fever without symptoms

Sorry I am just updating....

My son ended up having the Cocsakie-foot-mouth disease.
WE actually ended up taking him into the ER on sunday eve when the fever got to 104.5 and he was inconsolable- I told my husband I had enough worry and that I wanted to take him in.
It was stressful but we are glad we did. WE were able to relax once we knew what he had.
