hanna andersson trainers?

Hi all,

We really haven't tried trainers for our little girl yet, but I think its time- she's 15m and generally has between 0-2 pee misses per day, and poo misses are so rare that I can't even characterize the frequency (less than once a month). I think we could start trying trainers- esp under dresses while its still warm. We do a lot of nakey bum at home and just out in the vicinity of our apt, but are moving to NYC where I won't want her nakey out-and-about, and my parents house where we'll be staying has furniture and rugs that they won't want getting peed on (I mean, a little dribble, fine, but not big puddles.)

so... I see that Hanna Andersson trainers are on sale right now- 3 for $20- which makes them a decent price-- but how well do they work? Anyway have experience yay or nay?

I'm still planning to get 2 simply cloth covers and use some hemp inserts I have already for our "out-and-about" solution once we move (to NYC where we'll be out on foot, and quite a lot). But I like the idea of trainers at home and then the HA unders my son has are such good quality- they literally have lasted him years- so I know she can continue to use them as undies for a good long while, once we are done with being in trainers only "at home".

Unless you have a VERY big girl they will probably be too big on her for quite some time. My DD (20 months/20 pounds) does wear them to bed most of the time but that's it - if she runs in them they will fall down. They are super cute and more absorbant than just he regular panties but they certainly won't save your parents furniture or anything. I would recommend something from EC wear although I can't remember the name of the ones I really liked. They came in black and a few other colors, have snaps on the side and a little flower logo I think. I wish i would have bought more. Sizing is much better and they are more absorbant yet she does think of them as panties versus a diaper. HTH

Shanny, the trainers w/ snaps and the flower logo are Daisy Doodles. Those have been our favourite waterproof trainer.

DD1 is almost graduated and has a stack of HA classic unders waiting for her. I bought them all in xs b/c dd1 is two. They really are big. The xs is made to fit from age two to three and a half. This is even after being washed w/ my diapers, so on hot and a v long drying cycle. So, yeah, while I have no doubt that their trainers are of the highest quality, they probably will not fit a 15 mo old and there is virtually no shrinkage.

Not to hyjack but how absorbant are the HA compared to gerber? I have a 9mo and would like something a bit more absorbant than gerber. Size is not an issue because she is huge and I had to cut slits in the sides of the 2t gerbers to fit her thighs

I love HA trainners. Both of my kids used from 12 mo. or so until they move it to regular undies (18 mo with my first and 20 mo. with my second)

HA trainners can hold one pee, but can leak if the kis is been hold for long time.

My 15mo is about 23 lbs- large and solid, but not gigantic. Sounds like the HA are big for some toddlers. Isabchi- does that sound like the size range of your kids?

okay- so other trainers are way out of my price range though I see some discontinued ones that might work (if I can find a tape measure and check this girl's thighs). Also I checked diaperswappers and maybe can get something from there.

I only would expect non-waterproof trainers to temporarily CONTAIN one pee miss. Does that sound reasonable? our girl uses the potty a lot, but I would like to just stop the puddles. My parents aren't fussy about a little toddler dampness, you know?

DD just woke up from a nap and wet for the first time in a long time peed at nap. She had in the HA trainers and her silky blanket was wet along with the comforter she sleeps on. I'm not talking soaked but everything is in the wash now and she went right before nap. Just to give an idea. Maybe check out EC wear for sales.

We never used the gerbers, sorry no help there

Yes - the daisy doodles are my favorite!

hmm I'll probably continue to do nothing like I have been for the past few months... I never can make up my mind and $$ is an issue for us so its hard to justify spending $80 on underwear for a 1yo! I mean, I'd never in a million years do that for myself!

I guess we can continue to do without for now. I'll look for on-sale trainers in a month when we've moved.

Maybe I will magically find a bunch of time and energy somewhere and sew my own (HA! not likely in the next few months, we have a lot of transitions coming up, and I am a full-time grad student).

DD1 currently wears the (sadly discontinued) Wee Essentials trainers from JC Penney. They are the same style as HA ~ four-layer cotton in the crotch. They are def more absorbent and durable than Gerbers. I will never buy Gerbers again, they do nothing besides soak up a dribble IMO. The WE's will contain one pee, but depending on the size of the pee, they will sometimes still leave a puddle, even under pants. Remember, it is only four layers of jersey cotton. They are made to catch a small pee or the little dribble overflows. For those, they work great!

I can also tell you that HA's have great re-sale value on Diaper Swappers, esp if they are practically new. I totally bought the unders when they were on sale a month or two ago, so, yeah, I spent $40 on baby underwear! Due to the exceptional quality & size range, I can justify it, esp since I have another girl who can wear them next. These unders will never ride up the bum and they are v modest.

I don't know how well they work but I just bought a pack while they were on sale! So I guess I will be finding out soon.

alright- I decided to have DD try on big brother's size S HA unders and frankly they fit okay... I mean roomy but not rediculous. So I think the XS trainers will work for her. And in the past few weeks she is increasingly telling us if she has to potty and even attempting to pull down her pants, which is way to hard even with a loosely fastened fuzzi-bunz diaper on.

Amazingly, big bro has been wearing the size S unders since he was 2 1/2 (for three years! they still fit just fine AND are in good condition).

I read that the s are for ages 3-6, so I'm not surprised they still fit him! Makes the expensive price tag not sound as bad, thanks for the sizing feedback. DD1's xs are still baggy, but she is quite skinny. That is okay w/ me ~ they will get more wear! I'm not a huge fan of the fact that they go up to her belly button, but I will get the hipsters when she gets older.

so, I went ahead and ordered some HA trainers. Hope we like them! I'll weigh in at some point I am sure. Even these (at about $7 per pair) seem like a stretch (I don't buy myself undies that cost that much!) and the only way I am justifying it in my mind is that I know they'll last 2 years or so. I don't care if she wears padded undies even when she's dry most/all of the time. And lets face it, even "grads" have misses from time to time.

Right now, when not just nakey-bum, she's been wearing some gerber undies to which I added a sewn-in soaker. These are a year old and all stretched out and really saggy.

I think trainers will be good for home use and short jaunts. And grandpa will be watching her for 3-4 hours in the mornings come Sept 13, so I'm wanting to have a sense if these will work for that before I ask him to take over (he's absolutely great with kids and totally fine with pottying her).
