Is there a way to treat ADHD naturally?

DH has ADHD and I am about to lose my @*%$^ mind. I'm not even allowed to go into the den anymore because he's embarrassed about the mess (not enough to clean it up apparently). There's trash and dirty dishes everywhere. If I place a trash can right next to his recliner, he will set his empty soda can down on the left on the side table instead of on the right in the trash can. If he somehow manages to put trash in the can, when it gets full, that's it. It doesn't get taken out, the trash goes in the floor again.

The one and only chore he does is washing laundry (mainly because he won't let me go downstairs because of the mess). Most of the time, if I ask for something specific, he'll wash that and enough other clothes to make a load and that's it. We have HUGE piles of dirty clothes in the basement that never get around to getting washed. He refuses to put anything away, for the simple reason that he just doesn't like doing it, so if I don't have time to put it away (which is basically always the case), we dig through baskets to get dressed.

I work full-time and go to school full-time. I also do all the housework. All of it. We don't go places much because every day off I have, I have to try and catch up. DS is also picking up on DH's bad habits. He never turns a light off when he leaves the room, never closes a cabinet or drawer when he opens it, if he's done with something, he just drops it where he's standing and walks away, if something's in the floor, he just walks over it.

Sorry about the rant. The basic gist of the thing is I need to do something about this before I freak out. Insurance only covers ER visits, so I don't think we can afford to go to a doctor for an Adderall script or something. Is there anything I can do that will help DH?

It sounds like depression is also a factor. A script for Adderall does nothing to relieve the root causes of why the brain and moods are not functioning like they should.

I'd start with the Feingold diet and lots of cod liver oil for omega 3 fatty acids, cut out omega 6 fats (elim. vegetable oils except for palm, coconut and olive) which antagonize omega 3s.

Supplement with high amounts of magnesium and vitamin D. Zinc 25-50mg. 50 or 100mg B complex. See Carolyn Dean's Magnesium Miracle book and Julia Ross's The Mood Cure.

It doesnt really sound like adhd to me. More like depression, Obsessive Compulsive or...hoarding?

Anyway, proper foods can help with any of it. Avoid processed foods, sugars and eat more whole foods,. Especially avoid msg (see truthinlabeling.org) and other neurotoxins.

Best wishes!

As I was researching amino acids, I came across this information on wellsphere. It has many parts, but I found that I read through *all* of it. The bottom line is that there doesn't appear to be just a *single* supplement that "cures" ADHD, but there are possibilities to consider in combination.

I was also going to suggest "The Mood Cure," by Julia Ross, like another pp did. If you google "The Mood Cure," Ross has a website with an self-inventory that your dh can take. It might be enlightening.

Are you open to homeopathy? Looking into this now for DD's Aspergers.

Have you looked into neurofeedback?

What's neurofeedback? I've heard of it, but I'm not sure what it entails.
