Handling tantrums.

I'm sure there are many threads about this... my baby is soon to enter 'tantrum phase' if not already (not too bad, yet). I'm curious what you mama's recommend. I'm a first time mom (also a single mom).. so I'm learning as I go. My baby seems to be a really happy baby and seems to be thriving.. I've used this site for almost every question so I feel like I'm doing pretty good so far!

Do you guys recommend the 'ignore' tactic? Do you pick them up and hold them until they come down? Any ideas that I haven't read about or had suggested? I've never really been one to let Asia cry, but over the past month or so I've let her fuss a bit here and there now that I feel she is old enough to handle it. (Never if she is screaming, though.) She used to do this thing where she would bang her head on the wall when she got upset.. I would look away when she did it, and then she stopped and I would reward her with hugs. That worked very well and she doesn't do that anymore.

Nowadays I can tell the difference between a tantrum scream, and crying where she really needs something. And it seems like there are a lot more tantrum screams going on..

Any help is greatly appreciated!
