Quick scheduling question...

We will be hsing this fall for the first time, and I'm still figuring out how I want to do things. I think at first we will only be doing swimming lessons and piano for both older boys (5&8), and not other "extracurriculars." I've joined a bunch of hs groups and will be doing activities, park days, etc., as we want to. But here's my question: would you try to schedule swimming and piano for both boys all on one day, so that the rest of the week is free to be flexible? Or would you space them out more? I'm kind of leaning towards the first, since a big part of why we want to hs is to have more flexibility. What do you think?

i think your plan sounds good. the only issue my kids *might* have is just not wanting to do two activities back to back. but you know your kids best, so i'd try it and see what they think. you can always change the schedule if it's too much, right?

Personally, I would not want to have one day too heavily scheduled. I prefer one activity a day so that the day doesn't seem so rushed and each activity can be enjoyed (it's hard to decide to go for pizza with the other swimmers if you've got to rush home to meet the piano teacher.) Also, having activities spread out sort of breaks up the week. It gives you something to look forward to (and if they're not looking forward to the activity I wouldn't do it.)

I agree w/ this sentiment. I initially liked the idea of having one day that was our big 'activity' day so it left us free the rest of the week, but like Crepes mentioned, it's really more effort (and way more exhausting) to have it all in one day than having it a little more spread out.

Yep, spread it out. We've done it both ways now. But, for me, I have also learned to schedule the activities after lunch. If we don't get to the "schooling" part of the day in the morning, we usually won't do it at all.

Thanks, mamas! This is why I come here! I really appreciate your perspective on this. I think that you may be right that it could be too much.

Thanks! Anybody else?
