DH and I bonding over The Tudors... need suggestions for what to watch next.

DH and I are nearly through with Season 3 of The Tudors. We have been renting them from Netflix and have just loved the show. We don't tend to so thoroughly enjoy television. Well, not since King of the Hill, Northern Exposure, and Twin Peaks. So, I know Season 4 is not out yet on DVD, but I'm wondering about a show we might enjoy together after The Tudors. We have really enjoyed this time together and talking about the show. Strange... I know, but I'm glad for it. I don't want the end of the show to be the end of our time. Any suggestions?

Do you like the history aspect specifically? Any other genres?

A show DH and I enjoyed together was Stargate SG-1. We've always like sci-fi but this one seemed to appeal to us equally. The female character was the smartest not just the cutest. It ran 10 seasons so you'll have plenty to talk about.

DH and I have recently started watching Whale Wars together. The current season has already started but you can watch Season's 1 and 2 instantly on Netflix.

If you're interested in another historical show Rome is quite good.

If you have showtime, my husband and I love Nurse Jackie and Calinfornication. Totally different shows from the Tudors, but we still enjoyed it together. OH and Big Love. He isnt much for TV like I am, but we enjjoy watching those together.

We do love the history aspect of it. We both like things that are based in reality quite a bit, though DH loves Star Wars and I Star Trek TNG, we don't tend to go for Sci-Fi. I do have Rome in our Queue. Never heard of Whale Wars, I'll check it out. We did watch an episode of Californication and while it did crack us up I don't forsee us watching it. I'll have to look more at Nurse Jackie, I've heard several speak about that one. My sister loves Big Love and Weeds. However, a bunch have recommended True Blood.
I think Rome will be next though... we are really liking the history part. I've been so out of touch with TV... we haven't had cable or satellite in 11 years. hehehe Any other suggestions?

Maybe Mad Men? DH and I had/have a similar "bond" over & with that show We don't watch TV otherwise, so it is a real treat to sit down and watch an episode!

Six Feet Under is amazing - you can rent them through Netflix. It's pretty raw, but emotional, dark and funny all at the same time. Good for watching with DH!

Oooooh, Six feet under! I'm watching it on my own from the beginning and it is very thought-provoking. And many seasons so you won't run out for a while.

Big Love is also great; love love love it, but I can't see my dh getting super into it.

Have you already seen Lost? That's what my dh and I bonded over the past few years....so sad it's over!

Also loved the Tudors. The next dvd is coming out next month-excited because we do netflix. Other series I've enjoyed are Weeds, Big Love and currently Six Feet Under. Have Mad Men in the queue as well as Brotherhood.

DH and I both like True Blood and Firefly. We also really liked Battlestar Galactica and we are not into sci-fi at all. We also watched Flight of the Conchords together and liked it, but that is a totally different type of show. DH really liked Rome, too, so that might be a good one. I like Big Love, but DH hasn't watched it. And I think we are the only people on the planet who didn't like Lost!

I want to say that Six Feet Under is awesome. I watched back when I had HBO, and then I watched it again on dvd. The characters are real, and feel personal rather than some lame attempt to create an interesting character that IRL would have many different personality disorders. And the final episode ties lots of things up nicely but still left me wanting more. Lots of good actors/actresses.

Now that I've plugged what is one of my all time favorite series, I think I'll go add "The Tudors" to my NF queue.

Rome was fantastic, and Starz just finished a mini-series of "Pillars of the Earth" that was similar to the Tudors, just an earlier period. DH and I enjoyed that very much.

Pillars of the Earth, based on Ken Follett's book, was great!

The final episode, it was an 8 episode miniseries, just finished last night, so it should be on DVD soon. Although, if you have Starz, I am sure it will be repeating non-stop.

Rome

The first season of Weeds was hilarious but it jumped the shark by season 3
