Outgrowing Food Intolerances

Mamas-

I've been all dairy free and soy limited since my babe was 6 weeks old. She's now 6 months. I'm about to try dairy again but wanted to ask you all when your babes outgrew their food intolerance. I see so many people posting about diagnosing it but little to nothing about overcoming it. My search didn't pull up much either... Anyone?

I stopped all dairy and soy at about 1 week. I have just added dairy and soy back in as ingredients, but not 'obvious' that is no cheese, yoghurt, soy milk etc. Baby is tolerating well. I tried cheese about a week ago and it was bad... but after 2 days with no dairy again it got better so I went for the 'ingredient' trial. So far so good. Baby is now almost 4 months old.

Thanks for your reply! I have tried dairy as ingredients as well and she seems ok. Baked goods, etc. I'm just longing for a slice of pizza but I know how scary the repercussions are if she can't tolerate it yet.

6 months was the magic age for us!

With DS, I stopped dairy at 8 days old, because of blood in the stool and allergic symptoms-- runny eyes and nose, hives-- and stopped soy three days later. I waited until 16 months to reintroduce dairy, and he did fine, but he's still not able to handle anything more than trace amounts of soy. He's 3 1/2 now.

I think that it depends on how severe the intolerance was, though. My DS's symptoms were on the more serious side, with bloody stool, so I was very conservative.

oops - I tried some soy milk yesterday, hoping that I could at least add that if not diary. BAD IDEA. Lots of crankiness, gas and no sleep last night

I cut out dairy, soy, nuts, corn, wheat and eggs at 4 weeks because of screaming tummy pain, massive ezcema outbreak, stuffy nose, swollen eyes, etc and did a rotation at 3 months and then at 7 months. Each trial got sucessively less severe and as of the 7 month trial I can have eggs again and tiny amounts of soy. But that's it. The other stuff did not cause ezcema at least (or maybe I just stopped before the build up happened in her system). In DH's family they outgrow them by a year usually. I'll try another rotation around 10 months. She is also not ready for solids at 8 months, because her reaction to even a tiny bit of plain steamed veggie is the same as the 3 month rotation of gas, crying, frothy diahrea...

DS is almost 2 and just now able to tolerate obvious dairy (straight in his diet). He could tolerate hidden dairy around 18 months.
