Well it's official - Asthma Diagnosis

Thread Starter
Friday we took my son to the Allergist appointment. They did a pulmonary functio test, which was awesome. Totally geared toward kids. Then we met with the Resident. She did all the paperwork and history. Then we met with the Allergist. We decided to do allergy testing. He showed reaction to:

Juniper
Oak Mix
Bermuda Grass
Grass Mix (7)
Johnson Grass
Cat
Dog
Helminthosp (which is a mold)
Cat Pelt

His PFT was normal. He also had a chest x-ray.

She want's to see him in two months and get another pulmonary function test.

So now what?

I didn't get a chance to respond to your other thread on this. Just wanted to send you a hug. Our 7 yo was diagnosed with asthma this past winter, and we are still navigating our way through everything.

My son got an asthma diagnosis last fall, along with testing positive for a bunch of environmental allergens - mainly grasses and pollen, and cats/dogs, and dust mites. Luckily not mold as we live in a soggy part of the country.

My daughter also probably has asthma, but only mild dust mite allergies. She does not have asthma attacks frequently enough to be officially diagnosed with it, and without serious allergies tied into it they suggested that maybe it was just a bad cold season for her. So we'll see what happens next year - she just weaned last fall and was never sick before that. So there is virtually no history of what her response is to illness, just this one winter.

Did they give you any meds for your DS to control any asthma attacks til the next visit? Did they give you meds to control allergies? We went home from our first appointment with a huge bag of stuff. Getting the hang of it all, and when to give the meds takes some time. Ten months after his diagnosis, I still call the doctor's office regularly with questions about managing the meds, how to decide when to start and stop certain ones, etc.
