It seems we are at a very critical time where rates might be dropping but alarms are sounding off and there is a lot of pressure to get them back up. Bogus studies that even if they were true don't show any reason to circumcize are being touted such as those African RCTs.
What can we do to fight back? For instance I see the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is a big contributer. Why do they care so much about this? Do they think it will reduce the AIDs rate in Africa? Can people send information to them about how even if it is true it is costly and will cause problems since the complication rate is high in Africa. There are cheaper ways to reduce the rate that are much much more effective. Are people lobbying the CDC? There are people in the CDC who want the stance to change but are there people who think there are no midcal benefits too? Can we write more articles and get this information out there. I'm working on compiling research and writing a paper. What can I do once it is finished. Can we petition states that still cover it?
I am sickened overwhat we did to our boys over the last hundred years and what we took from them. I am sad over the affects to both men and women and the myths that perpetuate. How it was so normal that everyone just thought it was what you do and that it was just a useless piece of skin. How pop culture only exposed us to cut penis. A lot of the myths still perpetuate and parents cling strongly to them. Tons of men pressure to get it done because they feel threatened.
I feel conflicted over what to share with other parents. I don't want people to get defensive or make people feel bad because they truelly probably don't know the extent of things but this is one area that it is clear we are doing harm and it needs to stop. I don't want to make people feel bad though.
