Pocket Doors

How do you feel about pocket doors?

Fine for some rooms but not good for bedrooms because they don't lock properly.

We have a pocket door for our small bathroom, the door used to swing into it thus making it even smaller. Bathroom remodel with a pocket door=fabulous, love it. So much better than our old door.

We have one - for our laundry room - and I like it okay, I guess. It almost always stays open, though, unless we have company. If it were a door that had to be opened and closed often, I think it would drive me nutty.

I think they can be a pain or they can be awesome! All depends on the functionality and location.

I'll expand a bit....
My friends and I go to the mountains a few times a year to scrapbook. Two friends are sisters and their mother owns the cabin. The "cabin" is bigger than my house. Anyway, one of the bedrooms has a pocket door. The fact that it is a bedroom doesn't bother us...anyone will take that bedroom or any of the others. However, that particular pocket door is installed in a very un-level location and it slams open if you close it. Talk about "eye-opening" for everyone! We just all know to not use that pocket door now.

I covet them.

If they are installed properly with good hardware I really like them, especially in tight areas. (I wish our powder room and toilet area in the master bath had them but the walls are not set up to accommodate a pocket door.)

Awesome for making a small room a bit larger (bathroom, laundry room) or for providing privacy/mess control (i.e. the kitchen/ living room with a pocket door in between- nice for unexpected guests or to keep kiddos contained to one room).

Likely a PITA for regularly used rooms like the bedroom.

Love them if they work well.

I love them. We have giant (9' tall) double pocket doors that separate our living room and family room. They don't lock anymore, but they don't need to. They're gorgeous and it's nice to have something pretty to cover up any disasters that might be in one room or the other.

I love them, but ours are 120 years old and broken - dont love those so much!

Did the same in our bathroom and we are going to do it in another bathroom in our house. We also did it for our master bedroom door.

We are many in a small house and pocket doors (for the rooms that have doors that stay open most of the time) would be wonderful! Unfortunately, we are unable to consider this remodel idea, as the only direction the pocket doors would fit would mean a lot of rewiring. Not a project we want to undertake.
