Scar pain

In January '09, I had emergency surgery for a ruptured ectopic. My scar is around 7" long! It seemed to take forever for the pain/soreness to go away (no infection, just slow healing), and even longer for the numb parts to come back to life.

19 months later, I'm almost 21 weeks pg, and areas are starting to go numb again, and the scar itself is getting tender.

What can I do (in addition to buying different shaped underwear, lol) to lessen this, or at least keep it from getting any worse?

I went through the same thing. Had a section with my daughter, pregnant with our 2nd just a few weeks shy of my daughter's 1st birthday. I was 6wks pregnant on her birthday.

About midway through my pregnancy, when my belly really started growing my scar area became tender and even painful. It's still numb as well, always has been - I'm 19 months past section date. I discussed it with my midwife and she explained that it's tender from the stretching of the scar tissue mainly - plus the muscles were cut and are stretching and changing shape along with the belly which also causes pain. She said there really wasn't anything that could be done though... I'm sorry!!

just talked to me DH he works with scar healing all the time in his work helping folk recover from large surgeries,
he recommends good aggressive massage of the skins and scar multiple times a day with a good lotion or oil that had vit E, coco butter, coconut oil or similar things in it

even not that scar has things to do to get flexible. the massage needs to be done a few times a day and regularly to have much effect and be more aggressive than you think you might be, rolling the skin between the fingers and stretching the skin by pulling the skin in two directions with twi hands are both good things.
he also at work uses these silicone pads and this textured pads to use to rub the scars, for some reason that they dont fully understand the silicone pads seem to speed the process up. you can ask you doc if you see one, he is in a OT (Occupational Therapy) Clinic and that is where they have them in my medical center.
let me know if you have more questions for him

I'm sorry you are going through this. I am as well. I had a cesarean section less than 22 months ago. That scar isn't bothering me too bad unless I sneeze or cough really hard. I also had gall bladder surgery 35 weeks ago (I was 3 weeks pregnant at the time). My gall bladder was huge and stuck to my liver so they were unable to do it laprascopically. That scar is killing me. Its about 7" long as well. Anytime I use those muscles, cough or sneeze it burns soooo badly. If I sneeze, it's the worse. It burns for like an hour afterward. I haven't found anything that has helped at all. Sorry I can't give you some advice.
