I feel like I should know this already since this is my third baby, but I don't, and I'm getting several different answers searching the internet.

What is the difference between losing the mucus plug and having bloody show?

More than two weeks ago I began passing white/clear chunks of mucus on the TP when I went to the bathroom. There was no blood in it at all. I lost a little more every few days, particularly when I had a bowel movement. I had assumed this was the mucus plug, and I was losing it gradually, and I didn't take it to mean much of anything in regards to when labor would begin. This happened the same way during my first pregnancy, and the baby was 5 days late.

Now I'm 4 days late, and getting impatient. Just now (at midnight, so no calling my MW) I went to the bathroom and passed thin pink mucus on the TP, plus a few drops of bright red blood (just small ones). So is this bloody show?

I keep finding things on the internet that say that mucus plug/bloody show are the same thing, and even the article on MDC implies that they are. But then how would I be passing clear mucus more than 2 weeks ago, but only get blood now?

More importantly, can I count on this as a sign that my baby is coming within the next day or two? I want to hold my baby!

Oh, no one has done any VEs on me, though DH and I have both felt around up there. Today DH said he thought he felt the edge of my cervix, but it was really high and he wasn't sure. He was very gentle (more than I am) and it was 12 hours ago, and we haven't had sex in 2 days, so I don't think this is from that.
