PEEKABOO! When do they start doing it?

Today, my 7mo was sitting on the floor and out of nowhere started playing peekaboo with her daddy. My DH didn't know what she was doing at first- raising a playsilk over her face, then away from her face, smiling. He finally caught on and exclaimed "peekaboo!" every time she uncovered her face. She did this for about five minutes. I'm not sure if it's a fluke, but it was pretty neat!

Is this something that 7mo olds normally do? Could it have been a fluke?

My 2yo likes to put playsilks on the baby's head and ask "Where's baby?" "There's baby!!!".

It was just so sweet, I had to share

I seem to recall reading that Peekaboo is something they love once they start figuring out object permanence (that you still exist even if they can't see you), which I think is around 7-8mo usually, but I'm not sure exactly. We'll see what other mamas whose babies are there have to say. One thing I am learning the more I read here though is that babies vary so vastly in what they enjoy or what phase they're in at what age.

Oh shoot, my 7 1/2 mo just did the same thing yesterday and I was CONVINCED it meant she was a genius! Way to pop my bubble...

It was SOOOO cute, she was sitting on the bathroom floor watching dh and I get ready for work when she pulled the shower curtain over her face and then dramatically peeked out from behind it. We thought it was a fluke at first but she kept it up for about 5 minutes, laughing histerically!

DD did a version of peekaboo around 5 months. These days, at almost 10 months, she holds the blanket over her head and pulls it off when we say "Where's DD? Where'd she go?" Such fun to watch!

My son began about 8.5 months. I was drying him off after a bath. He pulled the towel up over his face with both hands, held it up a few seconds, then showed me that bright smile!!

ds started about 8 months. Count my bubble popped too, I was sure it meant he was a genius Blanket, sling, whatever he got his hands on, he'd pull it over his face, then I say "Where's River? Wheeeere's River?" then he'd pull it down like it was on cue, and I'd say Peekaboo I got a cute series of pics that shows the hiding, and the peeking.

DD actually started really early, like something on the order of 3 or 4 months, by accident. One night, she was lying on her back after a diaper change, on the bed, and grabbed a nearby blanket and put it over her face. I said, "where's S" and she uncovered her face, grinning, and I said "there she is!" -- and she repeated the covering and uncovering several times. So cute! Now at 9 months she does it all the time, and also does it with herself in the mirror.

Haha, I tried this with DS (4 months) a week ago, with me putting a cloth over my face and he cried and cried. Apparently it's wayyyyyy too soon.

My son is six weeks and of course, he can't initiate the play, but he seemed quite amused when I did it yesterday. Gave me a smile. It was in one of my baby books (I think AAP) an "developmentally appropriate" activity, lol.

Lol good to know it's not a fluke! My older DD was just like a log laying around and was more of an observer than a do-er.. so everything is a new experience with this DD!
