So, I went to my first Wic appointment, I know everyone there since I worked public health before, so it was fine. BUT I got the twin package...
I get like 6 gallons of milk a month!!!!! plus all the other stuff, extra!!! Thats REALLY going to help our household out!

On the other side, I have gained way way way too much weight. I am disgusted.

Wow! I need to get "proof of pregnancy" from my midwife before I can get WIC...but I'm really looking forward to the farmer's market checks if they still have any!!!

Nice!!! Have fun using all the extra food items.

Wish we had WIC here in Canada.

You can make a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese with all that milk! Awesome!

Man, that would really help out! I wish I could use WIC.... I had it when I was pregnant with DD, but after she was born (she's got severe food allergies) I couldn't use any of the stuff so I stopped getting it. I just went and checked out the website and saw that they're offering fresh produce now (yay!), so I thought it might be worth checking out again. But I just called to see how much you get, and it's $10 a month. For fruit AND vegetables. SO not worth the hassle of monthly appointments, lectures about vaccinating, etc. Bummer.

it is my understanding that no one gives farmers market checks anymore because you get a monthly fruit and veggie check for the local supermarket.

My 2 yr old gets 6.00 a month for them and I being preggo get 10.00 a month!

I think ours gives you $20 for the farmer's market. For the entire season. (We spend more than that every week at the farmer's market!)

I'm still debating whether I should get WIC again... the problem is, even if I become able to use some of the foods, ours doesn't allow ANY organic for dairy/eggs/juice, so I still wouldn't use it for that stuff.

6 gallons? That would be ROCK. My family burns through milk (which is funny, because I HATE milk).

Makes me want to take my bump up there and apply. I dont like to do it for the kids b/c I cannot stand the constant iron level checks. I dont think it is fair for my kiddos to go through that just for some food (although if we were in a bad financial situation, I might consider it)

I've been lazy about it but need to call for an appointment. I just don't want to go get a temporary Medicaid card first. For some reason they never sent me one for this month. But I'm sure if I call wic they'd start us out or look me up or something. The office here is really great. And I want the cereal and fruits and veggies and cheese! We could really use the help right now.

DDDC

1. OMGosh, isn't it a ridiculous amount of food?!?! And my WIC lady said that the breastfeeding twins package is even more!

2. Here in PA, if I get a doctor's note, I can substitute cheese for some of the milk, which is great because none of us are milk drinkers.

3. Don't beat yourself up over weight! I don't know if you've read any of Barbara Luke's nutritional recommendations for mamas of twins, but she's done studies that show you "should" gain 24 pounds by 24 weeks. Furthermore, it's the weight that you gain at the beginning that's most predictive of healthy weight twin babies. I'm 23 weeks, and I am majorly running out of space at meals, so I suspect the weight gain will slow down. Eat now while you can!

4. WIC benefits really do vary by state. I was lucky enough to get $40 in Farmer's Market checks for myself and my three year old as well as the fruits and veggies checks.

Congrats!!!!!!
