Easy toys for a 2 year old boy?

So we are broke, otherwise I'd probably buy scarfs. I want to give my bf something for her little boy how just turned 2. I can actually say I don't know how her dh would feel about a doll, so I wasn't going to make him same thing I made for my nieces.

Any really cheap ideas? I have lots of materials and stuffing, also some felt, on hand.

A stuffed animal or little boy doll might work, or and elf or wizard or something. Or cloth blocks. Or a playset, some kind of cloth castle with simple little people would be cool. Dress-up stuff can be great: crowns, hats, pirate eye patch, tails, wings, capes...

A doll dressed like a fire fighter, police officer, or something similar (what does daddy do?) as a "cloth action figure". You could even sew that on the tag: "Fire Fighter Action Figure".

Boys like dolls, too, so I say, macho it up and go for it!

What about a game? You could use an old sheet or large piece of fabric and cut holes out of it (with flaps maybe that have numbers written/painted on them) and make bean bags to go with it. I think this was in a recent mothering mag.... so no original idea here! The sheet can be hung from a door way with a simple curtain rod and there you have a bean bag toss game.

But I love the idea of giving a boy a doll. We just gave a haba "little engineer" to a fave 2 year old of ours.
