Ewwww Gross!

Hi I am looking to see if anyone else out there has had this experience and how to stop it! My dd is 4.5 yo and has been potty trained for years. She has recently started to reach down to touch butt when she is pooping. This just grosses me out. I have asked her why she does that and was told that she wanted to make sure the poop was going to come out. I told her it would and that she did not need to reach down behind her as she was going to verify the fact. From those of you who have btdt, what suggestions do you have beyond being in the bathroom with her (I am now). Yuck, yuck, yuck!
Thank you

Luckily I don't have this problem with my 2 DC. But... I could totally see it happening. Yea, gross. But... I think it is totally curiosity. How is my body working, how is the poop coming out, what does it feel like, can I stop it from coming out, make it go faster/slower...? I think if I was in this boat, I would be totally neutral about it - just let her do it. No reaction, just let her experimtent. After a few tries, she will figure out all her internal questions and go back to using the toilet normally. I think telling her not to, or implying it is gross, will only satiate her curiosity, make her extend the period or do it in secrecy.

One thing, again being totally neutral about it, I'd make sure to help scrub the hands with a bit extra soap and warm water afterwards. Not make a big deal, but something like "oh, yes, I know you can wash your hands yourself, but I just saw an extra dirty spot on your finger there" or whatever.

i would also get a human body book and show her how poop is made.

i would take her to the local wildlife center and show her what is in scat

and i would make sure she isnt constipated.
