Newborn Covers--Imse Vimse vs Thirsties

Hi all--
I am pretty set on using the Flips for our next baby once they get big enough because we love using them with prefolds on our toddler. I'm thinking of getting a small stash of covers with some prefolds and a snappi for our newborn come this November.

I think I've narrowed it down to either the Imse Vimse or the Thirsties. My plan is 8 covers and 24 (or maybe 36 prefolds). Any thoughts on either one?

I haven't tried the Imse Vimse Covers, but I have a Thirsties XS and it was way too big for DD when she was a newborn (she was 6 lbs, though). So were the size 1 Duo Wraps. The only cover I had that actually came close to fitting her was my Bummis SuperBrite.

Both are great covers. I like the laundry tabs on the Thirsties (and the option to get them in snaps!), but Imse Vimse covers are super cute, soft, and easy to get a great fit. Sometimes I think the rise on the Thirsties is a little short.

I have 2 of each and they are the only covers we use. I think you'd be happy with either. What about getting a couple of each?

I have both, and while I like the patterns on my Thirsties much more than the IV, I love the feel of the IVs, so reach for them first. That's saying a lot for me I was warned that IV newborns are large for newborns, but had no problem with my little one who was nearly 8lbs at birth. You can affix the velcro with one tab above the other to get a tight fit. The elastic on the thirsties seems to cut into babies belly more than the IV, which fits higher up and seems to fit more gently.

I have both and I like them a lot, although I'd say I slightly prefer Imse Vimse. I'm using them over fitted diapers (KL0). My newborns are big at birth, 9+ lbs, and the Thirsties are a bit snug. I also like the softness of the Imse Vimse covers a little more than the Thirsties. But the Thirsties have a lower rise and doesn't cpver the little cord stump/belly button are like the Imse Vimse covers do.

If you're getting 8 covers you may as well get a variety, IMO.

That's true---get 4 of each and then I'm covered....I think pregnant brain doesn't allow me to think!

I just bought some of each. I have to say, I really like the IV because of the way they FEEL. They're my favorite, so far. My second favorite are the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap, which are similar it IV, in that they don't put the plasticy PUL next to baby. The fit is completely different, though. As for the Thirsties, I like the one I got just fine. It seems to fit really well (bought using GMD sizing recommendations). My slightly chunky, but average-weight 2 month-old just went into a size small for all of these, and though they fit differently, they do all seem to fit. I really like the IV's higher-rise, now that there's no cord-stump to worry about, and I can use either my orange-edge or yellow-edge easily under them. I'd get a variety to try at first- you never know what you'll like. And I ended up buying most of my covers at Amazon because it was cheaper than GMD when I signed up for a free month of Prime and got free shipping.
