Discomfort while wearing sling

I am hoping somebody can help me with this.

I have a Maya Wrap that both me and my 3 week old love. But it gets a little painful when I wear it for more than 5-10 minutes. I wear it over my left shoulder, she is on my chest in a froggy position. I cinch it up so she is secure, and the rings are at about the height of my armpits. Eventually then, I get a pain on my left side, below my armpit, above my ribs. It feels like there is too much pressure there, and I find myself twisting and contorting to help, but I can't. I have made sure that all of the fabric is spread out as evenly as possible across my back and shoulder.

What am I doing wrong?

--Just wanted to add that I also have a Moby Wrap that I use that causes no discomfort.

DS never liked to be worn, so I am loving wearing DD. Hope someone has insight!

Which way are you wearing the sling, right way out, or inside out? I always wear mine on the left shoulder, too, and have found it is more comfortable if I wear it inside out, so that I can spread it out better across my shoulder and down my arm. The demo in the video shows the shoulder cap across the right shoulder spread out; I could never figure it out until I turned it inside out. Once I did that, I was a LOT more comfortable. Another thing I do is to shake out the sling before putting it on, so that there is no bunching. Is there someone knowledgeable of babywearing who can spot you? I've found that helpful, too.

Sorry you're experiencing pain with your Maya Wrap, mama.

I for one simply can't wear any one-shouldered carriers or carriers that put the weight on one side (IE hip carries, even two-shouldered hip carries) for any length of time. I have to use two-shouldered carriers in either a front or back carry. I get a lot of pain no matter what I do after about 10-15 minutes, and I'm a very experienced babywearer. I do find tummy-to-tummy carries with one-shouldered carriers a bity more comfy than hip carries in one-shouldered carriers, for some reason.

I'm glad to hear the Moby is comfy for you! My first carrier was a CuddlyWrap (same as Moby) and now, at 15 months, we use woven wraps like Didymos every day and have for a year now

fwiw, i can only do one-shouldered carries for abt the first 6 months. after that,no matter how balanced and well i put the baby in the sling, it's just not comfy for me.
