HWOT - Capital Letter Cards, yea or nay?

We're going to start with HWOT Pre-K this year. I have the student book and the teacher's manual (love it). Instead of buying the wood pieces I copied the template in the teacher's manual and cut them out of foam. I have the mat piece and a set of the curves/lines. What I'm wondering is whether or not the capital letter cards are worth getting. In their suggested lesson plans they suggest doing several exercises with them including the capital letter cards. Did you get them? Did you think it was worth it or do you think it's better to just wing it?

I need to place one last order before we start school for the year so I need to decide sooner rather than later. TIA!!

I would go ahead and order the letter cards. I used the Pre- K kit for my daughter, and originally did not order the cards. After a few lessons I went back and ordered the cards, as I found that the cards are really necessary as the child is still learning letter formation. I found that my daughter really needed to see the letters and then place the wooden pieces over the cards to match. We played a lot with the cards and wooden pieces. I use the 2nd grade curriculum of HWT for my daughter now, a couple of years later. I think it's a great program. Hope this helps.

Do a search online and you can find free ones for HWOT.

Minuetmuse - I thought about that...but since the top of the workbook page shows how the letters are formed with the pieces I was contemplating not getting the cards and modeling it for my ds.

kittywitty-I'll have to search and see what I can come up with.

If anyone knows a site for this, could you please share it. I just tried to do a search and couldn't find anything. Thanks.

We bought just the workbook for my son. He is starting third grade. Since he does almost all of his work on the computer we haven't done a lot of handwriting. I bought the level 1 book to help him get more practice writing. But we didn't buy anything else. I didn't even get the teacher's guide.

My sister teaches the 4-yo kindergarten in our city and they use HWOT so I got a chance to see the teacher's manual before buying it. I really like the manual and am glad I got it. At $9.50 (at least in the younger grades) ea for the workbook and the teacher's guide I thought it was worth it. Spending more than $20 on the capital letter cards, though? Not so much. I elected not to get them even though I didn't find them online. I think we can wing it based upon the little pictures at the top of the workbook pages just fine. Thank you all!

I got the wood pieces off of craigslist for $5. I've tried to sit down with my son and make our own cards. He's really enjoyed this when we've done it. However, I am just not inspired to this activity and it is hard to do with a toddler in the house. I'm considering buying the cards to avoid making them. I'd still love to hear the thoughts of parents of the 4 to 5 year old world on their experience with the cards. (I'm also not sure how we'll make the G.)
