Need to sanitize my AIOs

How do I do this without ruining them?

DS only uses diapers at night now that he's mostly PLed. A few months ago, he got this awful rash on his bottom that wouldn't go away. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and sent us on our way. The rash wouldn't go away, the doctor insisted that it wasn't the diapers and gave him a stronger oral antibiotic. I'm hesitant to give it to him, so I switched him to disposables and used lots of cream, and guess what? It went away. He was down to just a few marks that may be scars or just slow to heal, so I put him back in the AIOs and after one night the rash is back!

I know I can boil the inserts (which he didn't have in there last night), but what do I do with the diapers? I tried OxyClean, TTO, extra washes, more extra washes w/o detergent (to make sure it's not detergent residue). What else? I'm afraid to use bleach as that will ruin the diapers altogether. (I used a bit in one load last year and there are little holes in some of the diapers now.)

They are BG Organic AIOs, if that matters....

Are you sure it isn't ammonia burn? Oxy Clean is probably your best bet if you are uncomfortable with bleach. I would put 1/4 cup of oxy in a hot soak. Hang in there!

I agree that it may not be the diapers in this case, but ammonia burn from the concentrated pee against his skin all night. Have you tried lining the diapers with microfleece? It might provide enough of a stay dry quality to keep him rash free.
Good luck!

I have no idea! But the doctor did say that rashes become more common (and more intense) one they're out of diapers during the day, b/c their skin is used to being dry and is more sensitive to the wetness.

I experimented during his nap with the fleece, and one day it seemed to be okay, but the next day the rash was worse again. (Not all blistered and awful like it had been, but it definitely was not better.) I think I forgot to put cream on him though, so I'll try that again today.

As for OxiClean, is it definitely safe for delicate fabrics? I tried to use hydrogen peroxide (not quite the same thing, I know) on a stained shirt and it ate holes everywhere.

Oxy Clean Free is sodium percarbonate. It is a main ingredient in almost all CD safe detergent and regular detergent. Regular oxyclean is filled with optical brighteners, fabric softeners, and perfumes- which I would not use.
It is perfectly safe for your cd's.
