Written Resume, How Much Would You Pay

I write resumes professionally as part of my job as a permanent placement recruiter/headhunter. I am looking to earn extra cash and wondered if you needed a professional resume how much you would be willing to pay? I was hoping I could get about $20 for them and can do a package deal to customize them based on different positions/experiences the person has.
I would plan to advertise online and see if I could set it up through paypal and email them a completed resume within a couple of hours. Any thoughts on websites to advertise?

I would charge 20$ for a straightforward resume where the client supplies all the info in writing and you just format it.

I would pay 40$ if I had to meet with you, while you asked questions, and then you wrote it up.

As a professional, I'd pay more than that. Fifty? And I'd expect a 24-hour turnaround guarantee, not just a couple hours. (Plus, if you're good and word gets around, you'll want your clients to have reasonable expectations.)

Perhaps start by advertising on mama websites. It's a good place to start slowly, lots of moms want to re-enter the workplace after staying home--or find better jobs to support their growing families--and these are women you'll connect with anyway.

Good luck!

$50 sounds like a fair price to me, although I've seen them advertised for up to $200 (which, I think, included a cover letter).

For general reference on rates, here's an interesting blog post I bookmarked a while ago:

How long will it take you to gather information from your client and write the resume? How many revisions will you do if they want to change things?

I think you could charge quite a bit: $30-$60 an hour (or more), with a resume taking at least 1-2 hours. Or a set rate of $100 (or whatever) which includes one set of revisions, with additional revisions at an extra cost.

Fast turnaround is great, but I'd charge extra for same day/next day service. Normal turnaround of 3 days to a week sounds more reasonable (and makes it so you are unlikely to miss deadlines if you get sick or have an emergency).

Too fast turnaround also tends to devalue your work: people think "If she could do it so fast, it must not be worth much."

If you have a special talent or interesting angle in resume writing that you believe helps your clients get hired, you might be able to charge even more... once you have some evidence that your resume writing gets your clients hired. Maybe you are an expert in knowing which keywords to use?

Since you will be self employed, keep in mind that you'll need to pay self employment taxes and spend non-billable time on your business... both of which should be factored into the rate you charge clients.

Good luck!

My DH just paid $125 for a full re-write. It was $75 for editing an existing resume, had he chosen that route.
