rainy days / off days

So what do you pull out for your kids on those days you are feeling 'off' or rainy days where it just seems like whats on your school schedule isn't motivating anyone...?

there are always arts and crafts but anything specific you pull out for 'bad hs'ing mommy' days?

Those are the days we grab a board game, or watch a documentary on our version of netflix, or dig deep into the art supplies and see what exciting things we find!

We're having one of those weeks.. not for a 'bad hs mommy' reason though, but because my 17yo son has just moved down here with us.. excitement levels are high I figure getting to know their brother and stuff is more important than a bit of math.. math will still be there next week

It rains here ALOT so we have gotten use to it. However, when we get graze/hit by a typhoon or tropical storm I have to do something to distact the girls since it scares them. I have a cupboard of either cheap toys (like the Mr. Potato Heads I got for 3.00 when they were on clearance and puzzles I got for 1-2.00 on clearance) that I save for just that reason. I , also, have different art type kits and things they aren't usually allowed to use (like window crayons/markers, modeling clay etc) that I bring out when they need a distraction. We also spend time doing baking or whatever else I can think of to distract them.
If I get really desperate I turn on a movie or do some learning type games on the comptuer. Mine are young though so distracting them from something is a lot easier than an older child.

oobleck, finger paints, washing dishes, large sterilite box filled with sand and measuring cups/spoons/etc, tub in the middle of the day just for fun water play, science experiements, walk in the rain/puddle stomping. Sometimes we'll take all the blocks/legos/toy animals/toy people....anything we can find and make a huge city in the playroom using everything.

Rain never really slows us down, but we have slacker down days like everyone. Sometimes, all we really need to do is break whatever cycle is getting us down. If we've been home too much, a day-long playdate or outing does the trick. Or, if we've been on the run too much, a day at home reading fantasy in our jammies can be nice. Once, we painted our faces like different poke'mon. I try to keep a mental list of cool things to do when we need to get out of a rut.
