Okay...I have a few more tricks up my sleeve than what you mentioned here, but I also have two cents to add. I have worked really hard to never let my kids be in pain if I could change it. I just don't personally feel that it's okay for me to withhold comfort (not saying this is what you are doing) in the form of meds if what I have to offer isn't working.
I have never had to use medication for them, OTC or otherwise, but I would if I couldn't find something that worked. I don't feel that there's shame in that. As a mama who has only ever used natural medicine, for me comfort still comes first.
Okay, so...it sounds as though you haven't quite hit the right remedy, need a different dosing schedule or a different potency. Now, you can keep trying based on the picture or you could try something like cell salts which are easier to use and very effective. They are awesome for teething. They need to be given often, but will actually facilitate the process, as well as reduce pain. Definitely worth a shot if you can.
I love castor oil rubbed along the jawline and up around the ears. Truly wonderful stuff. I mix in hypericum oil or tincture and often add clove EO for it's analgesic properties. Again, apply often, but it's really helpful. In the absence of that I have also found that (natural) chest rub along the neck and up around the ears is also helpful.
Chiropractors are your friend at this time too. When babies are teething the nerve pain is great, but there is also often a great pressure in the ears. An adjustment can really help that shift.
The standard, frozen washcloths, frozen fruit etc is also great...but not so much if you are all trying to sleep. You can use herbs if you are comfortable with them-that's another avenue. Epsom salt soaks are great too.
I'm sorry mama! I hope you find something that works for your sweet one. It's not fun to have them so miserable (for either one of you!)
