oral vs vaginal progesterone in pregnancy?

after 8 mths ttc, i've got a bfp. i have a luteal phase defect, and started on vaginal suppositories initially, and they worked ok, but i was always worried about how much p4 i was really getting and how much was dripping out. and i did spot a lot still in the lp. so 2 mths ago i switched to oral prometrium- so much better. now that im pg, my doc wants me to go back to suppositories. anyone have any thoughts or experience similar? or no. do i have to do suppositories? they scare me a little, that they wont work. im waiting for my serum progesterone to come, back today also.

I also have a luteal phase issue and low progesterone, so I did suppositories from the day of my egg retrieval (I ended up doing IVF) until I hit 12 weeks. It was a pain, but I got used to it after a few weeks, and it definitely helped - I'm almost 20 weeks! My understanding is that the suppositories deliver the progesterone to the uterus more effectively than the oral pills do, and that the leaking isn't an issue. They monitored me carefully and I always had great progesterone levels. And believe me, a TON of gunk leaked back out every single time.

I also used 200 mg vaginal suppositories nightly during my first 16 weeks. My midwife said that the suppositories are absorbed better by the body than oral.

Post 16 weeks (I'm 24 weeks) I've been using progesterone cream daily.

From what I have seen, your body absorbs more from the suppository while it is in than it does from the oral, even though those cant leak out.
