sudden vision problems?

hello mamis.. blessings for all your bellies and LOs! hope all of you are feeling super duper, or at least headed in that direction..

i am wondering if any of you have had any experience with vision problems during pregnancy.

i'm 18w4d. ever since i got out of bed this morning, there has been something weird going on with my eyesight. i am already very nearsighted (my prescription is around -3.25), but once i pop my contacts in, i normally see just fine. today, though, i am having a very hard time seeing up close (e.g., reading the computer screen or sending text messages); everything just gets blurry. i also have a (very slight) headache all across my forehead.

i slept reasonably well last night and had a big breakfast. i don't feel nauseated or fatigued or in pain or anything like that.

my hunch is that it is pregnancy-related, perhaps yet another sweet little side effect of my raging hormones. but i remember reading somewhere that blood pressure probs and gestational diabetes might also affect vision.

i do not recall having experienced any vision issues this with my last pregnancy 4 years ago, but i might just be forgetful.

i just called my OB and left a message to let him know. i am sure the nurse will call me back at some point today, but i'm wondering if i should be concerned. even if this is a cause for concern, i doubt the OB will have time to see me on such short notice, so my only viable option would be spending the day at the ER trying to see someone. no fun!

insight, anyone? thanks in advance

I think this is normal. I had some very slight changes in my eyesight during my last pregnancy and looked it up in the back of my Mayo Clinic Guide. It was in there!!! It's a normal symptom of pregnancy.

If you're interested, I can look again and tell you exactly what they say.

Could be related to blood pressure or blood glucose issues--so I'd definitely get it checked out... especially if you previously had diabetes or high-blood pressure issues. I wouldn't necessarily go to an ER for vision issues--I'd be more likely to at least see an optometrist or ophthalmologist. But, if there's an underlying cause such as blood pressure or blood glucose, your OB should be able to help.

The one time I had something like you are describing it was a strange spike in blood pressure that caused it. I would get your blood pressure checked, you cancdo that at a lot of normal pharmacies. Then go from there.

My eye sight changes with every pregnancy. I have minor vision issues every morning as my eyes try to re adjust to life. I hope it's nothing serious for you
